SLIDES

A slide is a small piece of transparent material on which a single pictorial image


or scene or graphic image has been photographed or reproduced. Slides are small
transparent visual aids which can be viewed with the help of a slide projector or slide
viewer.

Based on the method of preparation they can be classified into:

a. Slides made by photographic process.


b. Computer made slide.
c. Handmade slides.

Based on the content they are classified into:

a. Live slides: gave 3 dimensional images of specimens, organs, life events, and
environmental conditions.
b. Flat copy slides: made by taking pictures of graphics, art-work and visuals drawn
on sheet.

PREPERATION OF SLIDES

 Slides are prepared in sets of ten, twenty, or more for selected topics.
 If slides are using, at least five to six slides should be there for a presentation.
 Based on the objectives of instruction, content may include written words,
sketches, cartoons, graphs, pictures of objects etc.
 Only one concept or one sketch or one graph is adequate for one slide.
 Descriptions accompanying the visuals should be legible, simple and correct
without any spelling mistakes.
 The size of the letter should not be less than 6mm.
 6 to 9 lines can be included in a slide.
 Molded slides range in size from 2×2 or 4.5×4 inches.
 The arrangement of slides in proper sequence according to the topic discussed is
an important aspect of teaching.

OVER HEAD PROJECTOR/ TRANSPARANCIES

It projects transparencies with brilliant screen images suitable for use in a


lightened room. OHP is a device for projecting a matter, which is written or drawn on
transparent sheet of acetate on to a screen.

PREPERATION OF OHP TRANSPARANCIES

 Use a standard size acetate sheet measuring 18×22.5 cm.


 OHP markers are available in two types: temporary and permanent.
 It must be clearly written with at least 8 mm size letters either free hand or by
transfer letters ot templets, etc. A transparency which can be clearly read from a
distance of 2m should project well for a class room 6m deep.
 Best colors to use to write are black, blue and green.
 Keep the amount of information to a minimum.
 Avoid copying information from printed books.
 It should be creative.

 Diagrams and drawings can be draw.
 Concepts can be illustrated.
 Room does not have to be dark.
 Projector is easy to be used.

MODELS

It is a life size miniature or over size or original size whether workable or not,
whether it differs from or not from original size of an object to be studied, which is very
useful in teaching.

TEACHING WITH MODEL

A model mat either be carried into a classroom or be kept in a laboratory
depending upon its size and appropriateness. A model kept on view for a long time, often
goes unnoticed and loses its educational value. It should, therefore, be stocked away until
needed. While using it, the teacher may employ the inquiry method, question answering
techniques, group discussion or demonstration. The value of model is enhanced if the
students are permitted to handle.

FLASH CARDS

Small compact cards which flashed before the class to bring an idea.

PREPERATION

 10”×12” or 22”×28” in size.


 Used for small groups not over 30 people.
 Provides variety and activity in the class.
 Messages can be brief.
 Use plenty of colors.
 10 to 12 cards for one talk.
 Needs drill or preview.
 Can be used individually or combination with others.
 Story of each card must be familiar.
 Must use simple words.
 Hold the cards at the chest level.
 Use pointer, do not cover the matter with card.
 Be enthusiastic and enjoy explaining.
 Prepare a picture of each idea.
 Important points should be written in back side, if the trainer forgets, a relevant
matter, by seeing it easy to catch the points.
