Motion of the Earth

This lesson plan focuses on teaching students about the Earth's rotation and revolution, including their effects on day, night, and seasons. The plan outlines objectives, content, learning resources, and procedures for engaging students through discussions, demonstrations, and evaluations. It includes activities for assessing understanding and encourages appreciation of the Earth's motions in daily life.

B. Review/
Presentati -What was your topic last meeting
on of the again? weather patterns
new lesson - Okay It is all about weather patterns and season sir!
and seasons in the Philippines.
-Do you have any idea class what are
the reason behind the different seasons
on our planet?
-Do you have any idea why do we have
days and nights?
- Okay to figure that all out we will tackle
our new topic which is the Motions of the
earth.

C. Establishin Now before we start our objectives in

g the this topic will be the following:
purpose
You should be able to:

A. The learners demonstrate

understanding of the earth’s rotation
and revolution
B. The learners should be able to
demonstrate rotation and revolution of
the Earth using a globe to explain day
and night and the sequence of seasons.
C. -Differentiate between rotation and
revolution
-Identify the effects of the earth’s
motion
-Appreciate the effects of earth's
motion in our daily lives
D. Discussion Have you ever wonder why do we
have day and night class?
Our earth is moving at constant speed
The earth move in two ways: Two
rotation and revolution
Our earth rotates on its axis at a regular
and steady rate.
Earth’s ROTATION- It is the
movement of the earth which it
rotates on its axis.
Axis- it is tilted in 23.5 degrees and also
it as a imaginary line.
-Our planet rotates from west to east or
counterclockwise.
-And because of that the Earth Rotation
result to the occurrence of day and
night.

-Places on Earth facing the Sun

experience day time, while those facing
away from the sun experience night
time.

-To complete a 1 rotation it takes 24

hours.
-The sun always rise in the east and sets
in the west.

Now we will proceed on the next

movement of the earth which is the
revolution.

What is revolution?
What is the difference between rotation
and revolution?

Revolution- is the movement of the

earth around the sun.

-The earth revolves around the sun in

counter clockwise direction

It takes the earth a “year” or 365 and

1⁄4 days to revolve around the sun.

To keep the calender sync with the

revolution of the Earth, a “leap year” is
used every four years to compensate
the excess time.
Leap year- is a year with 366 days.
February 29 is added on the leap
year calender.

The orbit of the earth is “ellipse” or

elliptical shape.

Aphelion- The earth’s farthest

point from the sun.

Perihelion- The earth’s nearest

point from the sun.

June 21 or 22- Summer starts in

Northern Hemisphere
-Winter starts in southern
hemisphere

June 21 or 22- Northern Hemisphere

experiences its longest daylight period
while southern hemisphere experiences
shortest daylight. (Summer Solstice)

As the earth moves, summer turns to

autumn and winter turns to spring.

During September, October, and

November, the axis of the Northern and
Southern Hemisphere move sideways.
Therefore, in this period, both
hemisphere receive not too much or too
little energy from the Sun.

September 23- The day time and night

time has equal length. This time is called
“Autumnal Equinox”

During December, January and February,

the North Pole is ``facing away" from
the Sun while the South pole is facing
the Sun.

During this time, the Northern

Hemisphere receives the least amount
of sunlight, while the Southern
Hemisphere has the greatest amount of
sunlight.

Decemeber 21 or 22
-Northern Hemisphere will
experience winter and will have
shortest daylight.
-Southern Hemisphere will
experience summer and will have
longest daylight.

From March, April, May both

hemispheres receive equal amount
of solar energy.

North H= Spring
South H= Autumn

March 21- The length of day and

night is equal. This time is called
“Spring Equinox”

And those are the movement of the

earth that affects Seasons of our planet.

E. Developing Now that we have already understand

Mastery what is rotation and what is Revolution
(leads to all about. We will have a short activity.
formative
assessmen I will group you into 2 groups and each
t 3) group will have representative to
perform.

Group 1 will Demonstrate Rotation.

Group 2 will Demonstrate Revolution.

Instruction: 2 or more will represent as

the sun and 2 or more will represent as
the earth.
F. Application In a ¼ sheet of paper, write the
difference between Rotation and
Revolution.

G. Generaliza What was our lesson for today?

tion

What is rotation again?

How about Revolution?

Does the movement of our earth

important to our daily lives?

What do you think if our earth

stops rotating or revolving around the
sun?
