the whole amount to Kenya shillings. While in Kenya, spent a total of sh 53 075 and changed the

shillings, the amount he received. (3 marks)
4. In the following figure, triangle is a uniform cross section of a solid D . Given that is

5. A salesman sells story books and textbooks. The cost price of a story book is sh 600 while that of a

21. The diagram below represents a rectangular swimming pool 25 long and 10 wide. The sides of
the pool are vertical.
The floor of the pool slants uniformly such that the depth at the shallow end is 1 and at the deep end

(a) Calculate the volume of water required to completely fill the pool. (2 marks)
(b) Water is allowed into the empty pool at a constant rate through an inlet pipe. It takes 9 hours for
the water to just cover the entire floor of the pool. Calculate:
(i) The volume of the water that just covers the floor of the pool. (2 marks)
(ii) The time needed to completely fill the remaining of the pool. (2 marks)
(c) If the sides of the swimming pool and its floor are to be covered with square tiles of side 20 ,
find the number of tiles required.

24. Nyikuri and Mike contributed a total capital of sh 800000 to start a joint business. Nyikuri
contributed 31 of the capital. A profit of sh 72000 was realized by the end of the year. Part of
this profit was paid as allowances as follows:
Nyikuri received basic management allowance of sh 7000 plus 7 of the profit and
partnership allowance equivalent to 3 2 of his capital.
Mike received a partnership allowance equivalent to 2 4 of his capital.
