Hello family
Hello family
I am really glad that you are reading my letter and I hope I can be the perfect Au Pair
for you and your kids.
My name is Catarina and I am twenty years old. I live with my dad Eduardo, my mom
Andréa, my brother Matheus and our little dog Woody. But my whole family is much bigger
(including 10 cousins, grandparents and even a great-grandmother). My parents are amazing,
very comprehensive and totally support my decision of becoming an Au Pair. We live at São
Bernardo do Campo, a city nearby São Paulo, Brazil. Here I drive everyday since I got my
driver’s license at 2011.
I attend to a Engineering course at a federal University (one of the best of Brazil) and I
am good at teaching math and science. I am a smart and creative girl, very responsable, polite,
kind and easily adaptable. My friends always say that I am the ‘grandmother’, because I care
about everybody too much. When I have a task I do my best to it and don’t easily give up. I like
to spend my free time with my family, reading good books (specially Sidney Sheldon's ones),
playing with my dog and cooking - I'm really good at brazilian, mexican and Italian food and I
know how to make amazing cookies . I also like crafting, it is good for give as gifts and relax.
But what I like the most is taking care of kids.
I was raised with my ten younger cousins so I learned soon the real meaning of sharing
and having responsibilities. Since I was a teenage I helped with them – I changed a lot of
diapers and prepared a lot of baby bottles. When I got old enough I started taking care of the
kids of my mom's friends and neighbor’s. The most were under two so it was easy for me
because of my previous experience. When I finished high school a professor invited me to
teach math to some middle students that was not going well. It was a great job and all the kids
recovered their grades. After this, I volunteered to work at a public kindergarten. It was an
emotional challenge for me because it is hard to see kids that have almost nothing. Besides
playing with kids, feeding them and help them with hygiene I also taught them how to use
computers. Nothing can compare with their happiness when they first saw an educational
virtual game. Another great experience was taking care of three american kids (nine, six and
three years old) that moved to Brazil. They were lovely but were a little chocked with the
change. I had to help them to familiarize (specially the older with school) and also they taught
me their culture and way of life. I introduced them some Brazilians songs and plays to help
them to talk in Portuguese. Also, they taught me nice things as how to make macaroni with
cheese and PBS KIDS (a great site that has a lot of nice videos and activities)! I also worked six
months at kid’s parties. I took care of the kids, painted with them and make picnics. By now I
am taking care of a one and a half year old girl called Maria.
I do believe that kids have so many things to teach us as we have to teach them and with a lot
of love, creativity and patience we can do everything. I will be a good Au Pair because I love it
and I will do my best.
Catarina.
