Acrylic, also known as PolyMethyl MethAcrylate (PMMA) or Plexiglass™, is a transparent plastic noted for its strength, optical clarity, and versatility, being half the weight of glass while offering up to 17 times its impact resistance. It is used in various applications, including home improvement, aquariums, and military equipment, and is highly resistant to temperature variations and many chemicals. Acrylic fabric, made from manmade polymer fibers, shares similar production processes with nylon and polyester fabrics.

What is acrylic?
Acrylic is a transparent plastic
material with outstanding
strength, stiffness, and optical
clarity. Acrylic sheet is easy to
fabricate, bonds well with
adhesives and solvents, and is
easy to thermoform. It has
superior weathering properties
compared to many other
transparent plastics.
Acrylic Acrylic sheet exhibits glass-like
qualities—clarity, brilliance, and
transparency—but at half the
weight and many times the impact
resistance of glass. From durable
signs and skylights, to eye-catching
retail store fixtures, displays and
shelves, acrylic plastics provide
outstanding versatility, durability,
and aesthetic qualities.
What Is Acrylic Fabric?
Acrylic fabric is made with
It's chemical composition is
plastic threads. The plastic
threads are made of a Poly(methyl 2-methylpropenoate)

manmade polymer fiber

created from fossil fuels
through a chemical process.
Acrylic fabric is made in a way
similar to the production of
polyamide fabric (or nylon
fabric) and polyester fabric.
Acrylic (PolyMethyl MethAcrylate or PMMA)
is a transparent plastic known more
commonly by the trade name “Plexiglass™.”
The material is similar to polycarbonate in
that it is suitable for use as an impact
resistant alternative to glass. It was first
produced in 1928 and was brought to
market five years later by Rohm and Haas
Company. It is generally considered one of
the clearest plastics available.
Acrylic plastic is extremely transparent, offering excellent light transmission

PROPERTIES
properties and offers excellent optical clarity (when either MOP or vapour polished)
similar to glass and is able to transmit 92 percent of white light.

Acrylic sheets can have up to 17 times the impact resistance of ordinary glass and
have very good resistance to component breakage through shock or impact. It is also
half the weight of glass and is ideal for machining into Precision components.

Acrylic plastic is highly resistant to variations in temperature, making it

ideal for using in the manufacture of medical manifolds and microfluidics devices
and can be fully heated treated and diffusion bonded.

Acrylic plastic is highly resistant to many different chemicals,

again making it ideal for using it in the manufacture of medical manifolds and
microfluidics & fluidic manifold and devices.
