Introduction:

Frustration is a common emotional experience in human life. It occurs when a person is trying to reach a goal

or fulfill a desire, but something or someone stops them. This leads to emotional tension, dissatisfaction, and

sometimes anger or sadness. Frustration is a part of daily life, especially in situations where we face failures

or obstacles.

Definition:

Frustration refers to the blocking of goal-directed behavior. When a person wants to achieve something, but

cannot do it due to internal or external barriers, he or she experiences frustration.

Causes of Frustration:

1. Withholding Reinforcement: Expecting reward but not getting it. Example: Studied hard but did not get

good marks.

2. Thwarting: Someone physically or socially stops a person. Example: Wants to play football but coach says

no.

3. Conflict: Person is confused between two or more opposite desires. Example: Study or attend a party.

Types of Conflict:

1. Approach-Approach Conflict:

- Choose between two positive goals.

- Example 1: Friend's party or school picnic.

- Example 2: Two job offers.

2. Avoidance-Avoidance Conflict:

- Choose between two negative things.

- Example 1: Homework or cleaning room.

- Example 2: Tooth pain or dentist.

3. Approach-Avoidance Conflict:

- One goal has both positive and negative sides.

- Example 1: Stage performance (fame vs fear).

- Example 2: Ice cream (taste vs weight gain).

4. Multiple Approach-Avoidance Conflict:

- Many choices, each with pros and cons.

- Example 1: Choosing a career.

- Example 2: Choosing a college.

Related Emotional Reactions:

1. Restlessness:

- Feeling of no peace.

- Moving or thinking too much.

- Example: Student restless before exam.

2. Aggressiveness:

- Expressing anger through words or actions.

- Types: Verbal, Physical, Passive.

Sources of Frustration:

1. Environmental: External issues like traffic.

2. Personal: Internal like low confidence.

- Loss of motivation

Positive Side:

Frustration can lead to creativity and growth if managed well.

How to Manage Frustration:

- Stay calm

- Break goals into steps

- Talk to someone

- Rest and sleep

- Manage time
