PATROLLING
- A patrol is mission to gather information or to conduct combat operation Infantry platoon a squad
conduct three types of patrol: reconnaissance patrol, combat patrol and tracking patrol.
AIMS IN PATROLLING:
1. To gather information
2. To provide protection and security
3. To harass the enemy
1. Reconnaissance Patrol - Provide timely and accurate information on the enemy and terrain.
They confirm the leader’s plan before it is executed.
2. Point Reconnaissance – Once which was undertaken to secure information about a specific
location or small specific areas, usually known position activity.
3. Area Reconnaissance – One which undertaken to secure information about extended areas.
2. Combat Patrol – Is conducted to destroy installations, facilities, or key terrain points or harass enemy
forces.
a. Raid – the mission of which is to destroy or capture enemy personnel, equipment, destroy
installation or liberate friendly troops.
b. Ambush – ambush enemy patrol and provides protection against surprise enemy ambush.
d. Economy of force – This will perform limited objectives mission such as seizing and holding
critical forces to be used elsewhere.
3. Tracking Patrol – A platoon or squad may receive the mission to follow the trail of a specific enemy
unit. Soldier look for signs left by the enemy. They gather information about the enemy unit, the route,
and the surrounding terrain as they track.
