Before answering the question-paper candidates should ensure that they have been supplied
to correct and complete question-paper. No complaint, in this regard, will be entertained
after the examination.
Note : Attempt Five questions in all, selecting one question from each Unit. Q. No. 9
is compulsory. All questions carry equal marks.
Unit I
1. (a) How scalars and vectors can be transformed under rotation transformation ? 7
(b) Discuss various laws of forces and also discuss their nature. 8
2. (a) Write Newton’s equations of motion and solve any two of these in polar
coordinates. 12
(b) A man using a 70 kg roller on a level surface, exerts a force of 196 newton
at 45º to the ground. Calculate the vertical force of the roller on the ground :
(i) if he pulls
(ii) if he pushes the roller. 3
(3)(OCT-20)M-18A6 1 P.T.O.
Unit II
4. (a) Explain and discuss forced oscillations and find the expression for the resulting
amplitude. 13
(b) What is centripetal acceleration ? 2
Unit III
5. (a) Derive and discuss the expression of angular momentum for the planar motion
about a point of a rigid body. 12
(b) A flywheel has moment of inertia 70 kg m2 and its axle has diameter 4.4 cm.
How much pull should be applied on a thread wound on the axle to produce
an angular acceleration of 0.5 rad/s2 ? 3
6. Explain and discuss the three dimensional motion of a rigid body wherein all the
points move in a coplanar manner in case of a rod executing conical motion. 15.
Unit IV
7. (a) Explain and discuss the free body diagrams with an example on modelling of
supports and joints. 12
(b) Discuss the condition for equilibrium in two dimensions. 3
8. Explain and discuss the geometric compatibility for small deformations with an
example of trusses. 15
