INTRODUCTION
The Topic chosen on This Project Is Student Information System. Student
Information System Is a Management information System for Education
Establishment to manage Student Data. Student information System
provide capabilities for registering students in courses; Documenting
Grading, transcripts, Results of student tests and other Assessment scores
building student schedules; tracking students attendance; and managing
many other Students related Data is needed in a school.
Student information System (SIS)is a web-based application software
designed to introduce a conductive and structured information exchange
environment for integrating Students, teachers and the administration of a
school or college. some of the other software packages available for this
purpose include Student management
System (SMS), Students information management system (SIMS)
And Students records System (SRS). These Software systems enable
Educational institutions to supervise Students -related activities Such as
keeping records of tests or examination conducted.
. Information Security is a concern, as university house an array of sensitive
personal information, making them potentially attractive targets for security
breaches, such as those experienced by retail corporations or healthcare
providers.
2. motivation
The reason for developing this System is
1.As we all know most of office works are Done on papers and this paper work can get a bit
messy and tedious so by employing System Information System we can simplify our daily
chores.
2.The second reason is this System can be one step in Improving the Digital world.

3. Statement of the problem

SIS is the process of collecting, processing and storing transmitting relevant information to
support the management operation in any organization. where it helps to provide accurate and
timely information necessary to facilitate the decision-making process and enable the
organizations functions to be carried out effectively. However, at UNIVERSITY OF GONDAR
accessing the subject’s prerequisite has been difficult by the SIS developed by This group has
solved that problem.
The other problem with the SIS provided by the campus is it doesn’t show the or provide the
information of the student’s attendance in the class room.
The way universities all over the world manage student’s information have drastically changed
and evolved together with the advent and developments of ICT .the establishment of online
student’s management systems in institutions of higher learning like University of Gondar
situates both opportunities and challenges; to some extent, it remains a half way barrier to
some users as they call the electronic machinery a tough game, difficult to cope up with, hence
they still remain adamant to effectively utilize the benefits of a new system. At the same time,
ensuring a complete migration to such an online student management system seems not
possible and raises a lot of concerns among students considering issues such as slowness of
broadband internet connectivity the campus is currently experiencing.
The following objectives were formulated to help address the research problem:
· To identify services offered by the Online Student Management System
at University of Gondar.
· To find out the benefits of an Online Student Management System as
perceived by students at University of Gondar.
· To identify challenges that student’s face when using the Online Student
Management System.
4. Objective
The purpose of Student information System is to allow the administrator of the campus to edit
and find out the personal details of a student and allows the student to keep up to date his or
her profile it’ll also facilitates keeping all the students, Such as their id ,name ,mailing address
will be available in a few seconds .
 Over all it will make Student information management an easier Job for the administrator
and the student of any organization
this application specifically performs the following actions
 Employee Registration
 Student management
 Student Registration
1. Grade management
2. Dorm management
 Employee management
 Course management
 Term management
 Digital library

5 methodology
 A social survey research design was used in this study. In nature, the study
applied the principles of both qualitative and quantitative research approaches.
The study population was comprised of students from the faculty of information
science and Electrical Engineers and computer Engineers and the Director of ICT Admins
at University of Gondar.
 This application Is done with the access given by the university of Gondar. Specifically
the head of Electrical and computer engineering .and this access allowed us to exploit
and use the resources used in building the Student information system web application.
5.1 Findings
The researchers distributed ten (10) questionnaires to students in the
Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering, of which every respondent
returned the questionnaires, denoting 100% response rate. Of the 10 respondents. In
terms of departmental affiliation, 3 respondents were from the ICT Admin’s and
Electrical and computer engineering department whereas 20 (54.1%) respondents came
from the
department of Information Communication and Technology. Additional
information, views and opinions as regards to the use of SOMS were also sought
from the Director of ICT services through interviews. The following section
presents and discusses the findings of the study:

5.2 Software Development Model

The software development models are the various processes or methodologies that
are being selected for the development of the project depending on the project’s aims
and goals. there are many development life cycle models that have been developed in
order to achieve different required objective. the models specify the various stages of
the process and the other in which they are carried out.
So The software development model used in this project is incremental build model.
The incremental build model is a method of software development where the product is
designed, implemented and tested incrementally (a little more is added each time) until
the product is finished. It involves both development and maintenance. The product is
defined as finished when it satisfies all of its requirements.

5.3 Development tools and Software

We used NetBeans tool which is free, open source IDE. It allows developing desktop,
mobile, and web applications.
Its features include: -
 It offers complete support for Latest Java Technologies
 Support for fast & smart code editing
 Easy & efficient Project Management process
 Rapid user interface development
 Helps to write bug-free code
 NetBeans IDE offers superior support for C/C++ and PHP
developers
 NetBeans IDE can be installed in any OS which supports Java, from
windows to Linux to Mac OS X system
The Libraries include:-
 Swing
 AWT
 SQL
 Apache
Extensions: -
Plugins and Software: -

6. Scope and Limitation

The student information system has many limitations and drawbacks
 The SIS will cover end-to-end functionality, right from core student lifecycle activities
including admission enquiry, selection, admission, program & course enrolment,
exams, evaluation management with ability to capture non-core & extracurricular
activities. Along with this, the system will also have modules to control back end
activities.
 The limitation of this system Is that it cant perform the following activities
 The System is applicable only for electrical and computer
engineering department
 It can not provide us with daily newsfeed
 It can not provide information about the university where the
system is being launched
 It doesn’t show the monthly salary of the stuff personnel and it
doesn’t say any thing about the student’s cost shearing.
 It doesn’t include health information of the students and the stuff.
 Doesn’t include clearance form.

7. Requirement Analysis
Requirement analysis is significant and essential activity after elicitation. We analyze,
refine and scrutinize the gathered requirement to make consistent and unambiguous
requirements. This activity reviews all requirements and may provide a graphical view of
the entire system. After the completion of the analysis, it is expected that the
understandability of the project may improve significantly. Here, we may also use the
interaction with the customer to clarify points of confusion and to understand which
requirements are more important than others.
7.1 Functional Requirement
Functional requirements are baked into the code that developer’s deliver (interpreted
or compiled). Events from input devices (network, keyboard, devices) trigger functions
to convert input into output.
Functional requirements include: -
 Business Rules
 Transaction corrections, adjustments and cancellations
 Administrative functions
 Authentication
 Authorization levels
 Audit Tracking
 External Interfaces
 Certification Requirements

7.2 Use Case Model

A use case diagram at its simplest is a representation of a user’s interaction with the
system that shows the relationship between the user and different use cases in which
the user is involved.

9. Software requirement
This article will describe about hardware and software configuration, which is required
to develop applications in java.
