Primary - 6 Unit 1+4 Revision

(Place Value Within 10,000,000 + Fractions )
Things To Note :
14 = fourteen ; 40 = forty ; 90 = ninety ; 11 = eleven ; 12 = twelve

e.g. 7,148,295 = seven million, one hundred and forty-eight thousand,

two hundred and ninety-five

In the number 123,456 : the value of 1 = 100,000 ascending order = smallest to greatest
the value of 2 = 20,000
the value of 3 = 3,000 descending order = greatest to smallest
the value of 4 = 400
the value of 5 = 50
the value of 6 = 6

When you round a number to the nearest something, you look at the next
digit. If the digit is 0 to 4, you round down ; 5 to 9, you round up.

For example, if you round 149,285 to the nearest 100,000 , you look at the
10,000s digit which is 4 here. So, you round down to 100,000.

149,285 rounded to nearest 10,000 is 150,000.

149,285 rounded to nearest 1,000 is 149,000.
149,285 rounded to nearest 100 is 149,300.
149,285 rounded to nearest 10 is 149,290.

All About Fractions

When adding/subtracting fractions, you don’t need to calculate the denominators.
To add/subtract fractions with different denominators, the lowest common
denominator is necessary. (same for comparing/ordering fractions)
When simplifying (or) finding an equivalent fraction, you need to multiply/divide both
the numerator and the denominator.
To add mixed numbers, you can either add the wholes and fractions separately or add
together as improper fractions.
Subtracting mixed numbers can be done as improper fractions or by rewriting the
bigger number to make the fraction part bigger.
0 800
To work out how does the number line go up in each interval, you can calculate :
Difference between two numbers on the number line ÷ Number of intervals between them
For example, in the number line above, 800 ÷ 10 = 80, so number line goes up in 80, 160, 240,....

Negative
__ Numbers
The bigger the negative number looks, the smaller it actually is. (-10 < -5)
If you add a positive and a negative number, you subtract them and the answer will
have the symbol(+,-) of the bigger number.
-x-y = -(x+y) . For example, -4-5 = -9
If there are two minuses together, it turns into plus. [ 7-(-5) = 7+5 = 12]
