RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING (RPL)

module probably because you have

 been working for some time

 already completed training in this area

The evidences for recognition of prior learning are presented if:

 You can demonstrate to your trainers that you are competent in a

particular skill, thus, you don’t have to do the same training again.
 If you feel you have some of the skills, talk to your trainer about having
them formally recognized.
 If you have Qualifications or Certificates of Competence from previous
trainings, show it to your trainer.
 If the skills you acquired are still relevant to the module, they may
become part of the evidence you can present for RPL.

At the end of the learners’ guide there is a learner’s diary to record important
dates, jobs undertaken and other workplace events that will assist you in providing
further details to your trainers or assessors.

INFORMATION SHEET # 01 LO1
Describe the team role and Scope

Objective: Differentiate team role from responsibility

A team is not a bunch of people with job titles, but a congregation of

individuals, each of whom has a role which is understood by other members.
Members of a team seek out certain roles and they perform most effectively
in the ones that are most natural to them.” According to Dr. R. M. Belbin

Team Objectives
Team objectives support the team’s vision and purpose and the Company
and/or Department objectives.
Why are team objectives important?
 Team objectives are the basis of the team’s planned work.
 Team objectives should be the starting point for the employee
objectives set as part of the performance management process.
 Team objectives provide the basis for talent and resource
planning. They dictate the resources needed.
Ways to develop team objectives
Team goals should be developed through a group process of team
interaction and agreement.

Team Scope is an element of the high-performance team charter.

 Scope is the breadth and depth of the team’s responsibilities, the limits
that define how far it can and must go. Scope is like a boundary line,
defining "what is in" and "what is out". Scope, for example, can outline
decisions the team can and can not make, or set limits / define criteria
regarding where authorities begin and end. Scope might be more easily
understood within the context of a set of teams, each responsible for some
part of a larger product or project. In this case, scope defines where one
team ends and the next one starts.
 Scope can be more, or less, specific, narrow, and formal, depending on
the nature of the work and the needs of the respective teams. In
organisations where boundaries are fuzzy among teams, and ambiguity
about "who’s doing what" or overlaps or gaps in production or delivery exist,
scope is certainly an issue and needs to be addressed at the team level and
across teams.

Team Roles from Belbin’s team role

 An effective way to assess the relative strengths and weaknesses of a

team. Helps the team to understand ways in which it could improve
performance.
 The team roles were designed to define and predict potential success of
management teams, recognizing that the strongest teams have a diversity of

characters and personality types.

 A team role as "a tendency to behave, contribute and interrelate with
others in a particular way." There are 3 action oriented roles - Shaper,
More Articlesand Completer Finisher; 3 people oriented roles - Co-
Implementer
coordinator, Teamworker and Resource Investigator and 3 cerebral roles -
Plant, Monitor Evaluator and Specialist. The 9 team roles are summarized in
the table below.
