Chapter Three Modifed

Chapter Three outlines the research methodology, including the descriptive survey design, population, sample size, and data collection methods. The study focuses on the Kuji Area Council with a sample of 350 respondents using a self-questionnaire to assess inflation and standard of living. Data analysis involved descriptive statistics and Chi-square tests to evaluate responses based on a four-point Likert scale.

CHAPTER THREE

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
3.1 Introduction
This chapter is concerned with explain the research design adopted for the research, the
population of the study, sample and sampling technique used, method used in the
collection of data , validity of the instrument of data collection and the technique for data
analysis used.
3.2 Research Design
The research design explain the procedure and method undertaken by the researcher to
obtain important evidence to clarify and answer the research questions listed in chapter 1.
The study adopted a descriptive survey research design
3.3 Population of the Study
The population of the study Kuji Area Council with an estimated population of 97,367 in
2006 (National population census, 2006) with an annual population growth rate of 4%, the
population of Kuji Area council in 2025 is estimated at 171, 366

3.4 Sample and Sampling Techniques

Using Slovin’s formula of sample size determination (N/(1+Ne 2) at 95% confidence level,
the sample population for the study will be a total of 350 people. Thirty five (35)
participant would be selected from the ten area council in Kuje, making a total sample size
of three hundred and fifty (350) respondents.

3.5 Instrument for data collection

A self-questionnaire on the inflation and standard living of people in Kuje area council
was used for data collection the questionnaire comprised of two section (section A and B).
Section A contained the personal data of the respondent such as; gender, age, wards,
occupation, and religion. While section B contained the research questions and
respondents were to respond to the items on a four (4) point likert scale of; strongly agree
(SA), Agree (A), Strongly Disagree (SD) and Disagree (D)

3.6 Validity of Instruments
The instrument used was validated by the research supervisor’s judgment employing the
content validity type.
3.7 Technique of Data Analysis
The data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistic such mean statistic was used.
In order to determine the degree of respondent’s agreement/disagreement on each of the
scaling statement in the questionnaire, nominal values were assigned to different scaling
statement as follows:
Strongly Agree ----------------- 4
Agree -------------------------- 3
Disagree ------------------------ 2
Strongly Disagree--------------- 1

A cut off was determined by finding the mean of the nominal values assigned to
option of the rating scales, using the formula of simple mean statistic.
x=∑ fx

∑n
Where
x = Arithmetic mean
∑ ¿Summation of values
∑ f =¿ ¿The sum total of the frequency
x = Scores
Scale ranking
4+2+3+1=10
x=¿ 10/4 = 2.5
Hence any of the responses therefore that have mean score of 2.5 and above were regarded
as agree while any value below 2.5 was regarded as disagree.
Chi-square was used to test and analyze the hypothesis
