LEDs

: Refer table 1a (Pg. 6).

Main features:
Channel Switching
In Auto mode, each channel is displayed in turn. The display switch time can be from 2sec to 180sec. After the last channel, the 1st channel will be displayed. The display refreshing of channel number is totally independent of sampling time. The channel sampling continues at a very fast speed and is not affected by time set for display. Eg. If the channel select is 12 seconds, its value in memory is updated every time a new sample is taken but channel is displayed in ascending order when its turn comes.

Channel Bypass Logic:

A channel can be bypassed in totality i.e. it shall not be displayed nor it will affect any control functions. Next channel will be displayed if the channel is bypassed. If last channel is bypassed, then after last but one channel, first channel is displayed. After Alarm condition, if a channel is bypassed, the relay returns to normal state and LED becomes OFF. After Trip condition, if a channel is bypassed, then relay and LED indication shall get reset only after acknowledging. Interesting point is that what would happen when all channels are bypassed? In such a case, a message is displayed on the display ALL BPAS .

Hysterisis
Hysterisis will always be set in terms of process value. User has to take care that dead band is not more than the Alarm point itself. In case, it is more, then no action will be taken to make the relay 'On' for any process value between 0 and Alarm point i.e. it will always remain ' off '. Eg. If this value is set as 10, with alarm point as 200, no action is taken for input process value between 190 to 210. After 210, relay will become OFF and below 190 only, it will become ON. This feature is to reduce relay operation and hence life of the Control element / Annunciator connected to the relay contacts. One can select dead band between 0 to 254.

Trip LED Control Logic

Trip type can be set for each channel. Low type Trip means, Trip condition is assumed if measured variable is less than the Trip set point. High type Trip means, Trip condition is assumed if measured variable is more than Trip set point. Depending on Trip type, if the Trip condition occurs, appropriate LED will blink. The Trip will reset after the parameter value will return to the normal value only after acknowledgement. At Alarm Set point, relay logic is different, it follows the input (no acknowledgement is required). Trip value is always greater than Alarm value.

Burnout Indication
Burn out indication is displayed when a sensor failure is detected. The interface circuit is designed such that on failure of sensor, input voltage is driven towards saturation (assumes high temperature). Note that like relays, ' burnout ' indication will follow the input i.e. if the status becomes normal, in the next scan, automatically new value will be displayed and not the old ' burn ' message.
[

Short Indication

If the Cable or Sensor is shorted by mistake, the short message ' Srt ' will be displayed.
[

Reliability Issues

Checksums of EEPROM are maintained in this unit. EEPROM CS is checked at the power on and is updated each time you change any parameter. After changing the checksum, it will once again recheck it. In case of checksum not matching, it will try to write the default values in the EEPROM. User has to change this value to the Operating Manual 8 Channel Universal Scanner Pyrotech 3/14

required values before he can continue. If the EEPROM itself is absent or is corrupted, then this will happen in continuous loop & you will not be able to proceed ahead. In no case, one will be allowed to resume with corrupted values.

Display Logic
Display is not configurable i.e. user cant decide what is to be displayed. The left display is dedicated for displaying channel number whose process value is currently displayed. In program mode, it displays the descriptor string of the parameter under change. The right display will normally show the process value in run mode. In program mode, it will show the value of the parameter like High / Low, Yes / No, 400, 180 etc.

At Power On
If the unit is not configured, or check sum of the EEPROM is not found ok, unit will display message CSE EROR for a short duration and then unit start functioning with the default value. Normally, if everything is ok, unit directly jumps to the scanning mode starting from channel number 1.

Configuration and Operation:

Explanation of Modes
User interface is divided into 20 modes or groups. These modes are divided as per their function. One can change the mode by pressing MODE key. The modes are listed as under:Mode1: Key Mode parameters The various parameters you can set here are: Name Channel switch time (in seconds) Dead band Address (for Modbus Communication) Mode2: Channel 1 parameters: The various parameters you can set here are: - Example Input as RTD follows as below Name Input type Decimal point Zero Range Span Range Alarm value Trip value Trip relay Channel Bypass Group Selection Symbol Lower Limit Higher Limit Symbol Lower Limit Higher Limit

(Program/Run mode key)

Press Mode key to go in program mode. If you are in program mode, then pressing Acknowledge key will take you back to the normal running mode. While in programming mode, one can press Acknowledge key any time to come out of the programming mode. At this instance, changed parameter is not saved. In fact this is the only way to quit changing parameter and resuming with the old values. On the other hand, pressing MODE key, the parameter is saved and will come into effect.

Up and Dn Keys
Up arrow and down arrow keys increment or decrement particular parameter. Eg. Trip Set point or Alarm Set point in mode 2. When an upper limit of a parameter is reached, the value will not increment further. Trying to decrement value lower then it's lower limit will restrict the value to the limit rendering the down arrow key ineffective. In some of the modes, this key does not increment or decrement a value but gives various selections. In manual mode, it increments or decrements channel number. Increment or decrement is time specific. Depending on the amount of time, the key is pressed, and the value is incremented or decremented in steps of 1,10,100 &1000.

ACK

Acknowledge Key

In Run Mode, it is used for Acknowledgement & in Program Mode, it is used to return to run mode.

Manual Mode: Up key switches the unit to manual mode when it is in run mode. In manual mode, the display
indicates the process value of only selected channel but monitoring of all channels for Alarm set point & Trip Set point goes on continuously. The manually selected channel can be changed by the increment or decrement key. Pressing Ack key some amount of time again, the user can go back to auto run mode. (Note: - For channel 1 - instead of C01, it will display 01 in manual mode and the same holds true for the remaining channels also.)
