The document discusses the network security model (NSM), which is a scheme that reflects the general plan and policy for ensuring network security. The NSM shows that there are four basic tasks in designing security services: 1) designing an algorithm for security transformations, 2) generating secret shared information, 3) developing methods for distributing and sharing the secret information, and 4) specifying a protocol using the algorithm and secrets to provide a particular security service. The NSM involves tools, devices, strategies and activities that organizations use to protect their networks, data and operations.

NETWORK SECURITY MODEL
What is a Model ? A Model is a representation of an object, a system, or an idea in some form other than that of the entity itself. The network security involves all tools, devices, strategies and activities which enterprises and organizations undertake to protect their networks, data and operations.
The network security model (NSM) is a
scheme that reflects the general plan and the policy of ensuring the network security. Security aspects come into play when it is necessary or desirable to protect the information transmission All the techniques for providing security have two components:
1. A security-related transformation on the
information to be sent. 2. Some secret information shared by the two parties and it is unknown to the opponent. NETWORK SECURITY MODEL The general Network security model shows that there are four basic tasks in designing a particular security service:
1. Design an algorithm for performing the security-
related transformation.
2. Generate the secret information to be used with
the algorithm. 3. Develop methods for the distribution and sharing of the secret information.
4. Specify a protocol to be used by the two
principals that makes use of the security algorithm and the secret information to achieve a particular security service. Thank You…
