• What can you say about the models of
communication process you have
drawn?
• Is there any difference that you have
seen from the models you have
presented?
• How did you come up with your
models of communication?
• What is the purpose of communication
MODELS OF
COMMUNICATION
1.ARISTOTLELIAN MODEL
- The first and earliest model by Aristotle
(5BC), who was a teacher of Rhetoric.
-focused on the speaker and the
message but the most important part of
his model is the Setting where the
Listener is situated. It is the setting that
dictates the Message.
Three Settings in Aristotle’s time:
1. Legal Setting- meant the courts
where ordinary people defended
themselves.
2. Deliberative Setting- meant political
assemblies.
3. Ceremonial Setting- meant
speeches delivered during
celebrations.

2. Shannon- Weaver-Model (1949)
- known as the mother of
communication models
- depicts communication as a
linear or one- way process
consisting of five elements.
a. Source- producer of message
b. Transmitter- encoder of message
into signals
c. Channel – signals adapted for
transmission
d. Receiver
– decoder of message from the signal
e. Destination
-a place something is being sent
3. The Lasswell Model
4. Schramm Model
-developed by Wilbur Schramm who was
considered as the Father of Mass
Communication.
-asserts that communication can take place
if and only if there is an overlap between
the Field of experience of the Speaker and
the Field of Experience of the listener.
5. Berlo’s Model
6. White’s Model

7. Dance Model
8. Transactional Model
- A two- way process of communication.
There is a collaborative exchange of
messages between communicators with
the aim of understanding each other.
- It also shows that a barrier, such as noise,
may interfere with the flow of
communication

DIFFERENCE SIMILARITIES
•What are the various models
of communication?
• Give the differences of each
models?
•Why is models of
communication important?
Role Play
In group of five, perform a
situation depicting the different
models of communication.
Do this in a 1 whole piece of paper.
1-2. Why models of communication
important?
3-10. Complete the graph by briefly
differentiating the Three Models of
Communication.
