INTRODUCTION AND OVERVIEW
It is an embedded controller circuit to switch on and off electrical
appliances.
This system will use normal TV remote control to send the control
signal.
The TV remote control sends control signals in the form of IR rays to the
receiving unit.
The IR signal will be converted into digital signal with the help of an IR
receiver.
The received signals are decoded by the micro controller and changes its
output with respect to the code received.

WORKING PRINCIPLE
1) The working can be mainly discussed as two parts which are the supply
part, micro-controller part.
2) The supply part/section mainly deals with the supply given to the
circuit. It can be done using 6V battery and by using VOLTAGE
REGULATOR 7805 it is fixed to 5V as it is required to drive the
microcontroller.
3) Working of this system involves an RC5 remote which is used as
Transmitter and TSOP1738 as IR receiver.
4) In micro-controller section, there are mainly two parts. They are
AT89C2051 micro-controller and ULN 2803 driver (Darlington
Transistor).
5) The micro-controller intakes the received signal from the IR receiver
(TSOP 1738).
6) When button is pressed, the transmitter in the remote sends the signal
and the receiver receives the signal. The received signal also contains
same number of duty cycles but the micro-controller confirms it with
the help of the external timers it has. After confirmation, the controller
makes the first output high.
7) This output is connected to Darlington Transistor (ULN 2803) which is
used to drive the application.
8) This gives a much higher current gain and also improves the life of the
micro-controller.
9) All the eight outputs of micro-controller are given as input to the
respective eight outputs with relays in between them.
IR TRANSMITTER
RC5 PULSE TRAIN
The first two pulses are the start pulses, and are both logical “1
The 3rd bit is a toggle bit. This bit is inverted every time a key is released
and pressed again. This way the receiver can distinguish between a key that
remains down, or is pressed repeatedly.
The next 5 bits represent the IR device address, which is sent with MSB
first. The address is followed by a 6 bit command, again sent with MSB
first.
IR RECEIVER-TSOP1738
The TSOP17... – Series are miniaturized receivers for infrared remote
control systems.
The main benefit is the reliable function even in disturbed ambient and the
protection against uncontrolled output pulses.
AT89C2051 MICRO-CONTROLLER
•The AT89C2051 is a low-voltage, high-performance CMOS 8-bit
microcomputer with 2K Bytes of Flash programmable and erasable read
only memory (PEROM).
•The device is manufactured using Atmel’s high density nonvolatile
memory technology and is compatible with the industry standard MCS-
51™ instruction set.
•AT89C2051 is a powerful microcontroller which provides a highly flexible
and cost effective solution to many embedded control applications.
•AT89C2051 provides the following standard features: 2K Bytes of Flash,
128 bytes of RAM, 15 I/O lines, two 16-bit timer/counters, a five vector
two-level interrupt architecture, a full duplex serial port, a precision analog
comparator, on-chip oscillator and clock circuitry.
•AT89C2051 is designed with static logic for operation down to zero
frequency and supports two software selectable power saving modes.
PIN CONFIGURATION:
DARLINGTON TRANSISTOR ULN2803
The eight NPN Darlington transistors in this family of arrays are ideally
suited for interfacing between low logic level digital circuitry (such as TTL,
CMOS or PMOS/NMOS) and the higher current/voltage requirements of
lamps, relays, printer hammers or other similar loads for a broad range of
computer, industrial and consumer applications.
All devices feature open-collector outputs and freewheeling clamp
diodes for transient suppression. ULN2803 is designed to be compatible
with standard TTL families.
PIN CONNECTIONS:
RELAY-NT73 (JQC-3FC)
FEATURES:
Super miniature, High power.
Low coil power consumption.
PC board mounting.
Suitable for household appliance, automation system, electronic
equipment, instrument and meter, communication facilities and remote
control facilities.
