What is Quantifiers?
• Quantifiers are words that are used to state quantity
or amount of something without stating the exact
number.
• Quantifiers answer the questions “how many?” and
“how much”
• Quantifies must agree with noun

• Have singular & plural • Only have singular • nouns can be dual/both

Much and Many mostly in question and negative sentences.

Much is used with uncountable


nouns
Many is used with countable
Example: plural nouns.
- Is there much rice left?
- We haven’t got much rice left. Example:
- Has he got many books?
- He hasn’t got many books.
SOME / ANY
Some and Any are used before plural nouns and uncountable nouns to talk about an indefinite
quantity.

SOME DIFFERENT ANY


• Some is used in affirmative sentences. • Any is used in negative and question form.
Example: Example:
- Are there any new stories in your store.
- There are some letters for you. - Is there any tea in the cupboard?
- I’ve got some money. - I don’t have any new stories for you.
- There isn’t any tea in the cupboard.
• Some is used in questions when we want to : encourage
people to say ‘yes’, for example in requests and offers. • Any is used after words with negative meaning
such as without, never, seldom, rarely, hardly.
Example: Example :
- Can you let me have some paper? - I found a taxi without any trouble.
- You never do any homework.
- Would you like some more tea? - There are hardly any eggs left.
- Have you got some paper I could have,
Please?
Little and few without (a) describe the quantity
in a negative way, that means is not enough of
something
LITTLE/FEW

Little means “not much” or “almost no”


Example :
-There is little work to do ( means : almost work to do )

Few means “not many” or “almost no”


Example :
-The exam is exremely difficult and few students
passed it ( means : almost no students )
A Few / A Little means that there are not a lot
of something, but there is enough
A Few use to express positive idea with
countable, its means small number but some
Example :
• I have a few friends.

A FEW / A LITTLE • There are a few people
