fires.
OBJECTIVES OF
THIS BOOK
▫ To be knowledgeable on R.A. 9514 or
Fire Code of the Philippines provisions
to understand various approaches of
compliance and new technologies in
fire science by the design professionals
and fire safety practitioners and
enforcers in order to increase the
chance of protecting lives and
4 properties.
OBJECTIVES OF - To equip the students, aspirants and
THIS BOOK
design professionals on the provisions of
local code requirements and standards
particularly on FIRE SAFETY, to be at
par with global standards in terms of
planning, designing, and upholding
public safety as it is being incorporated
5 in the design.
OBJECTIVES OF
THIS BOOK - To embed the value of FIRE and
LIFE SAFETY not just for
compliance and as part of the
planning and design process but as a
WAY OF LIFE for nation builders
who are the forefronts in the
6 development of the built
PURPOSE
- It is the policy of the State to ensure
public safety, promote economic
development through the prevention
and suppression of all kinds, of

exit connects three storey or less.
Example:
Width of Stairway is 900mm;
divide it by the Capacity Factor say 7.6mm; that will be
118 PERSON PER MINUTE can exit using the
13 stairways.
Occupant load Minimum width
The number computed by The width of any means of
dividing the floor area assigned to egress shall not be less that

EXAMPLE:
100 ft x 50 ft = 5000 ft2
5000 ft2 / 150 = 33 people CAN EXIT
Number of Means of
Egress
