Converter
Converters are electrical devices that convert the voltage from
alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC).
Converter Classification
(1) According to the number of Phases of the input supply
(a) Single Phase Converter (b) Three Phase Converter
(2) Based on the number of output voltage pulses per cycle of the converter
(a) Single Pulse Converter (b) Two Pulse Converter
(c) Three Pulse Converter(d) Six Pulse Converter, and so on
(3) Based on the converter circuit configuration
(a) Midpoint type converter (b) Bridge type converter
Introduction to
Three Phase M-6 Converter
Three Phase Mid Point 6 Pulse converter has large output and
least ripple content as compared to 3 pulse converter.
Because of the requirement of a special type of conversion
transformer, 3 Pulse converters are not popular in use. The
conversion transformer is used to prevent de-magnetization. For
large output and least ripple content, a three phase controlled
rectifier with higher pulse number is used.
Generally for industrial applications Six-Pulse converters are
used.
