Properties of the Operation

on
Integers and Forms of
Rational
Numbers
Most Essential Learning Competency:
The learner:

1. illustrates the different properties

of operations on the set of integers
(M7NS-Id-2).

2. expresses rational numbers from

fraction form to decimal form and
vice versa (M7NS-Ie-1).
Let's Warm
Up!Match Column A with Column B. Choose the letter that correspond to the
correct answer of the expression in Column A.

•Property is synonymous to
possessions, belongings,
things, goods, quality,
characteristics,
attribute, etc. these are not
permanent and sometimes What is a
might be move, transfer,
interchange or even stays PROPERT
the same. These are the
words that may represent Y???
the properties of integers
that perhaps give meaning in
applying the operation of
integers.
Important Terms to Remember!!
1. Closure Property. Two integers that are
added and multiplied remain as integers.
The set of integers is closed under addition
and multiplication.
2. Commutative Property. Changing the
order of two numbers that are either
being added or multiplied does not change
the value.
3. Associative Property. Changing the
grouping of numbers that are either
being added or multiplied does not
change its value.
4. Distributive Property. When two numbers have been
added / subtracted and then multiplied by a factor, the result
will be the same when each number is multiplied by the factor
and the products are then added / subtracted.
5. Identity Property. Additive Identity - states that the sum
of any number and 0 is the given number. Zero, “0” is the
additive identity. Multiplicative Identity - states that the
product of any number and 1 is the given number, a • 1 = a.
One, “1” is the multiplicative identity.
6. Inverse Property in Addition - states that the sum of any
number and its additive inverse is zero. The additive inverse
of the number a is –a, where a + (-a) = 0. In Multiplication, it
states that the product of any number and its multiplicative
inverse or reciprocal, is 1. The multiplicative inverse of a
number a is 1/a .

•A fraction represents a part
of a whole number. A fraction What
is a ratio between the upper is a
number (the numerator) and
the lower number (the FRACTION???
denominator). The numbers are
stacked vertically and
separated with a bar. Likewise,
decimals can be express in
fraction form. A decimal
number is used to represent a
non-whole number where a
decimal point is used followed
by digits that represent a
value that is smaller than one.
How to Convert Decimal to Fraction?
You can convert a decimal to a fraction by following these
three easy steps.

Step One: Rewrite the decimal number over one (as a

fraction where the decimal number is numerator and the
denominator is one).

Step Two: Multiply both the numerator and the

denominator by 10 to the power of the number of digits
after the decimal point. If there is one value after the
decimal, multiply by 10, if there are two then multiply by
100, if there are three then multiply by 1,000, etc.

Step Three: Express the fraction in simplest (or reduced

form).
Step One: Rewrite the decimal
number over one (as a fraction
where the decimal number
is numerator and the denominator is
one).

Step Two: Multiply both the
numerator and the denominator by
10 to the power of the number of
digits after the decimal point. If
there is one value after the decimal,
multiply by 10, if there are two then
multiply by 100, if there are three
then multiply by 1,000, etc.

Step Three: Express the fraction
in simplest (or reduced form).
