Have to
How to use “Have to” correctly?
• We use HAVE TO+ verb (bare) to talk about the rules and
obligations.
Ex 1: I have to submit my homework because deadline is
yesterday.
Ex 2: She has to wake up early every Sunday.
Ex 3: She has to get up at Seven everyday.
• When we want to make question we use: do/ does.
Ex 1; What time does she have to get up in the morning?
Ex 2: What do I have to do the next time?
• Past form: had to ( to talk a things that you need to do in the
past.
Ex: I had to my homework but I didn’t.
We often use “have to” when we want to talk about our habit or
NOTICE things we need to do. Sometimes it’s about the rules(advice,
order, notice,…) in normal life.

How can we say and use the
negative form of “have to”?
• We use DON’T HAVE TO + VERB (BARE) to say that there are no
obligations or something not necessary.
Ex 1: I don’t have to wake up early.
Ex 2: I don’t have to do housework because my mom has done all.
Ex 3: You don’t have to get angry at me, we can talk this out.

• Past form: didn’t have to( not haven’t to): things you don’t need to
do in past.
Ex: You didn’t need to do that homework.

We often use: “Don’t have to” to say that you are not required to do
something, especially if you don’t want to. You can do the thing if
you want to.

Use do/does to make question and
negatives and Don’t contract have or has.
Ex: (Right Grammar): A: Do I have to go?
B: I have to go now.
* (Wrong Grammar): C: Have I
to go?
D: I have to go.
MUST NOT AND CAN NOT

• We use can/must not + verb (bare) to say


something that prohibited or starte a rule.
Mustn’t and can’t are also negative
obligation.
Ex 1: I must not enter that dangerous room.
Ex 2: I can not do anything without you friends.

• In common, must not and can not are


similar meanings but can not is more popular
in speaking and communication. You can also
use “ Can’t or Ain’t”.
