Different Patterns Throughout The Year

The document discusses constellations and how their visibility changes throughout the year due to the Earth's rotation and revolution. It explains that the Earth's rotation causes the observed nightly movement of stars across the sky, while its revolution allows different parts of the sky to be seen at different months as the Earth orbits the sun. The document lists the constellations visible during different seasons and asks which constellations would be visible if stargazing at certain times of the year.

Unit 3

Module 3
Constellations
What is
constellation?
The rotation of the Earth on its
axis causes the observed
movement of the stars in the
night sky while the revolution
allows the observer to see a
certain part of the sky at different
months of the year.
While the rotation of the Earth on
its axis causes the apparent nightly
movement of the stars across the
sky, the revolution is responsible for
the fact that we can see different
parts of the sky at different parts of
the year.
 The constellations that are visible from late March to late
June (Northern Spring/Southern Autumn) are listed as
follows:
 Late June to late September (Northern Summer/Southern
Winter)
 Late September to late December (Northern
Autumn/Southern Spring):
 Late December to late March (Northern Winter/Southern
Summer):
If you plan to
stargaze during
this time of the
year, what will be
the possible
constellation/s will
you be able to
witness in the night
sky?
- The constellations Antlia, Chamaeleon,
Crater, Hydra, Leo, Leo Minor, Sextans,
and Ursa Major are the ones that are
easiest to see in April.
- During summer in the Philippines, the
constellations of Orion and Taurus are
not visible at night. They will be visible
again as the cold season begins. During
this time, Scorpius will not be seen in the
night sky.
As the Earth
revolves around its
orbit, the stars that
were concealed by
the bright light of
the Sun in the
previous months
will appear in the
night sky.
Why do we see
different
constellations at
different times of
the year?
Revolution is
responsible for
the fact that we
can see different
parts of the sky at
different parts of
the year.
