COMPUTER NETWORKS
WHAT ARE COMPUTER
NETWORKS
Computer networking refers to interconnected computing
devices that can exchange data and share resources with
each other. These networked devices use a system of rules, called
communications protocols, to transmit information over physical or
wireless technologies.
WHAT ARE FOUR MAIN TYPES OF
COMPUTER NETWORK

PAN (Personal Area Network)

LAN (Local Area Network)
MAN (Metropolitan Area Network)
WAN (Wide Area Network)
WHAT ARE NETWORK
TOPOLOGIES
A network topology is the physical and logical arrangement of
nodes and connections in a network.
Network topology is the physical or logical arrangement of devices
and connections in a network. It defines how devices are connected
to each other and how data flows through the network.
TYPES OF TOPOLOGIES
Point-to-point network topology. Point-to-point network topology is
the simplest method. ...
Bus network topology. ...
Ring network topology. ...
Star network topology. ...
Mesh network topology. ...
Tree network topology. ...
Hybrid network topology.
POINT-TO-POINT NETWORK
A point-to-point network is a private data connection securely
connecting two or more locations for private data services.
A point to point network is a closed network data transport service
which does not traverse the public Internet and is inherently secure
with no data encryption needed.
BUS TOPOLOGY
Bus topology, alternatively known as line topology, is a type of
network topology where all devices on a network are
connected to a single cable, called a bus or backbone. This
cable serves as a shared communication line, allowing all devices
(computers, printers, etc.) to receive the same signal
simultaneously.
RING TOPOLOGY
Ring topology is a type of network configuration where
devices are connected in a circular manner, forming a
closed loop. In this setup, each device is connected to exactly two
other devices, creating a continuous pathway for data transmission.
STAR TOPOLOGY
A star topology is a network design where all devices are connected
to a central hub or switch, and messages are passed to the central
core that, in turn, passes the message to either all other systems or
the specific destination system depending on the network design.
MESH TOPOLOGY
A mesh topology is a type of computer network in which each
node (computer or other device) is connected to every
other node in the network. This type of network is often used in
large organisations or companies because it can handle a large
amount of data traffic and can be easily expanded.
TREE TOPOLOGY
In networking, tree topology is a structure where devices are
connected hierarchically. It resembles a tree with a root node
and various branches. The root node is connected to multiple levels
of child nodes, forming a hierarchy.
HYBRID TOPOLOGY
Hybrid topology is a network structure that combines two or
more different types of topologies, such as star, ring, bus, or
mesh. It's designed to leverage the strengths and minimize the
weaknesses of the individual topologies it incorporates.
For example, a home network that uses both Wi-Fi and Ethernet
cables to connect computers is a hybrid.
