Mirror
• A mirror, also
known as a looking
glass, is an object that
reflects an image.
Images formed by reflection –
bouncing off of light.
•Types of Reflection:
• Specular/Regular Reflection – a reflection
of light on the smooth surface
• It is a curved mirror in
which the reflective surface
bulges towards the light
source
• It is called diverging mirror
Uses of spherical mirror
• Plane mirror is a mirror with a flat
reflective surface.
• The image appears as if it is
behind the mirror but actually
not, so the image is virtual.
• Plane mirror produced an effect
called lateral inversion, it reverse
image from left to right.
• A virtual image is a copy of an
object formed at the location
from which the light rays appear
to come.
• Incident Ray - The ray of light that ente
rs the mirror, illustrated by an arrow ap
proaching a mirror like optical feature.
• Reflected Ray -
The light ray that leaves the mirror and
is represented by an arrow that points
away from the mirror.
• Normal Line - An imaginary line
that can be drawn at the point of
incidence where the ray hits the mirror
, perpendicular to the mirror surface
