WHAT IS NETWORKING ?
DEFINATION  Connecting devices to share resources and information

IMPORTANCE 
1. Networking helps you discover new job opportunities, promotions, or
career changes through recommendations and referrals
.
2. Engaging with a network allows you to access valuable resources,
industry trends, and insider knowledge that can aid decision-
making.

3. Interacting with professionals exposes you to diverse perspectives and

expertise, enabling you to learn and develop new skills.
TYPES OF NETOWRK AND NETWORKING DEVICES
TYPES OF NETWORK
1. LAN (Local Area Network): Small area, like offices or homes.
2. WAN (Wide Area Network): Covers large areas, e.g., the
Internet
3. MAN (Metropolitan Area Network): City-wide networks
4. PAN (Personal Area Network): Individual device connections

NETWORKING DEVICES
1. Router: Connects multiple networks and manages traffic
2. Switch: Connects devices within a network for efficient
communication
3. Modem: Provides internet access by connecting to an ISP
DATA COMMUNICATION
WHAT IS DATA COMMUNICATION ?

Data communication is the process of transferring data or

information between two or more devices, systems, or
networks. This exchange of data occurs through a
communication medium, such as wired (e.g., Ethernet
cables, fiber optics) or wireless (e.g., Wi-Fi, Bluetooth)
channels, and involves sending, receiving, and processing
the information in a reliable and efficient manner.
KEY PROCESSES IN DATA COMMUNICATION
1. ENCODING 
> Converting data into a suitable format for
transmission
> Example: Binary signals for digital communication

2. TRANSMISSION
>Data is sent through a medium (wired or wireless
> Example: Fiber-optic cables for high-speed internet

3. DECODING
> Received data is interpreted back into its original
form
>Example: Audio signals converted to sound in
speakers
KEY TERMS IN DATA COMMUNICATION
ESSENTIAL CONCEPTS

1. Bandwidth: The maximum data transfer rate of a network.

Higher bandwidth means faster communication

2. Latency: The delay in data transfer. Lower latency ensures

smoother experiences, e.g., video streaming

3. Packet Switching: Data is broken into packets for efficient

routing and reassembly

4. Error Correction: Mechanisms to detect and correct

transmission errors, ensuring data integrity
REAL-LIFE NETWORK APPLICATION
1. Communication :
Email, messaging, and video calls (e.g., Zoom, WhatsApp)

2. Business :
Cloud services and remote work enable seamless
WHATSAPP
collaboration

3. Entertainment :
Streaming platforms like Netflix rely on robust networks

4. Education :
Online learning platforms use networking to connect
students and teachers.
EMERGING TRENDS
1. 5G TECHNOLOGY
Faster and more reliable mobile connectivity

2. IoT
Internet of Things connecting everyday devices

3. SDN
Software-Defined Networking for flexible and efficient
networks

4. AI IN NETWORKING
Enhancing network management and security
