The document discusses random sampling methods, which are used to select a subset of a population for estimating its characteristics. It outlines various types of random sampling, including simple random, systematic, stratified, cluster, and multi-stage sampling, with examples for each method. Additionally, it explains the importance of selecting samples proportionally from different strata to ensure representation of the entire population.

RANDOM
SAMPLING METHODS SAMPLING METHOD – it is concerned with the selection of a subset of population that will be used to
estimate the characteristics of the entire
population. Why is it important to used Sampling Method? RANDOM SAMPLING - is a procedure wherein each element of the population is a given a nonzero chance of being selected in the sample. TYPES OF RANDOM SAMPLING
• Simple Random Sampling
• Systematic • Stratified • Cluster • Multi-stage Systematic Sampling it is another type of random sampling which also known as the interval sampling. This method considers an interval in selecting a sample from a givem population. First, assign a number to each member of the population from 1 to N (where N is the total number of the population) and decide the sample size (n) that you need to consider. The interval size (k) is determined using the fomula: Example: There are 1,000 students in the population and we need to consider a sample size of 250. Find the interval size (k). ; Stratified Sampling is a random sampling method that divides a poplation into different homogeneos subsgroup called strata.
Random samples will be selected from each
stratum so that the population will be represented. We use stratified random sampling where we consider subgroups like year level of students, gender, and age, among others. Simple Stratified sampling is used when the population is divided ino strata with common characteristic/s and if we decided to get an equal number of samples from each stratum. Example.1. Out of 1000 students in a certain university, use theENROLEES(N=1,000) GRADE LEVEL simple sampling method SAMPLE to SIZE(n=200) get a sample GRADE 7 size of 200. 350 GRADE 8 250 GRADE 9 225 GRADE 10 175 Second type of stratified random sampling is proportional stratified sampling. In this method, the sample size is proportional to the nmber of the members of the statum. This means that the smaller the number of the members of the statum, the smaller the sample size from the stratum will be. Example 2. Out of 1,000 students in a certain university, use the proportional stratified sampling method to get sa sample size of 200. GRADE ENROLEES( PROPORTIO SAMPLE LEVEL N=1,000) N SIZE(n=200) GRADE 7 350 35% GRADE 8 250 25% GRADE 9 225 22.5% GRADE 10 175 17.5% MULTI-STAGE SAMPLING The type last type of random sampling is the multi-stage sampling. It involves two or more stages in selecting the samples from a given population. Multi-stage sampling also reduces the sample preparation cost because it may require only the last stage of choosing the samples, but the accuracy is lower because of the sampling error. Identify the type of sampling method used in each situation. 1. In order to estimate the percentage of defects in recent manufacturing batch, a quality control manager selcts every 12th product that comes off the assembly line starting with the 3rd until he obtains a sample of 75 products. 2. A farmer divides his farm into 10 parts. He randomly selects 4 parts and samples all of the plants within the parts in order to yield of his farm. 3. In order to determine the average IQ score of Grade 11 students in Metro Manila, a psychologist from the DepEd obtains a list of all the schools in the entire area. He selects 10 schools from the list and administers an IQ test to all Grade 11 students at the selected schools. 4. ABC University classified their students according to the following scheme:
Year Level Number of Students
First Year 250 Second Year 175 Third Year 155 Fourth Year 140 Based on the sample size computation, the value of n = 258, allocate the sample per year level using proportional stratified sampling,
