The document discusses animal nutrition and the digestion process in humans, highlighting the specialized structures animals use to consume food. It details the human digestive system, including the buccal cavity, esophagus, stomach, and small intestine, explaining the functions of each part in breaking down food. Key processes such as ingestion, peristalsis, and the secretion of digestive juices are also described.

Nutrition in animals
• Animal nutrition- Different
organisms use different methods to take food. Each animal has some special structure on their body to take food and utilize it. • Digestion- The process of breakdown of complex food substances into simple form Digestion in humans • In multi-cellular organisms the digestion take place in various organs are called digestive system. These organs together form a long path called the digestive track or alimentary canal Human digestive system 1. Buccal cavity (mouth)- Food enters the body through mouth. The process of taking in food is called ingestion . Buccal cavity has three main parts- 1 . Teeth 2 . Tongue 3 . Salivary glands • Teeth- There are 4 types of teeth in our mouth. Incisors, Canines, Molars and Premolars are these. • Tongue- It helps to roll the food • Salivary glands- They secrete saliva which converts starch (carbohydrates) present in the food into sugar Digestion in humans • 2. Esophagus- The swallowed food passes into food pipe and is pushed down by movement of the wall of the food pipe by contraction and expansion. This movement is called peristalsis . From here the food reach the stomach Digestion in humans • Stomach- It is the widest part of alimentary canal. The inner lining of the stomach secrete mucus, digestive juices and hydrochloric acid. Mucus protect the stomach and the hydrochloric acid kill many bacteria and make medium acidic in stomach. Digestive juices breakdown proteins into simple substances. Digestion in humans • Small intestine- It is a long , coiled , narrow tube about 7.5 m long. It is a place where partially digested food of stomach get mixed with digestive juices from liver and pancreas. Gall bladder of liver secrete bile juice and pancreas secrete pancreatic juice. In the small intestine Carbohydrates, Fats and Proteins are converted into simple form. Digestion in humans
