President Donald Trump fired more than a dozen inspectors general late on Friday night, axing nearly a significant portion of the civil servants tasked with the oversight of federal agencies.

He has little of the traditional experience expected for a national security cabinet position - a role typically filled by senior civil servants, experienced politicians, generals and high-level executives.

Many were well educated – including a former history teacher, civil servants and NHS workers.

Biden called them public servants who “have served our nation with honor and distinction and do not deserve to be the targets of unjustified and politically motivated prosecutions.”

The government says the assistants - called Humphrey - will "speed up the work of civil servants" and save money by replacing cash that would have been spent on consultants.
