Students who enroll in an engineering technology program have access to scholarships through the Toyota Engineering Technology Diversity Scholarship Fund, which will provide annual full-tuition scholarships for undergraduate students.
Preference will be given to students whose ethnic, racial, gender or background would enhance the diversity of their institution, as long as these preferences are narrowly tailored to the university’s achievement of its interest in obtaining the educational benefits of a diverse student body. However, every student who is enrolled in the program, is a Kentucky resident and has unmet financial need will have an opportunity to compete for the scholarship.
The Selection Committee shall conduct a holistic review of the applicants' qualifications, such as academic merit, extra-curricular and volunteer activities and professional goals, as well as the criteria listed above, to select the recipient most deserving of an award.
Scholarship recipients will be mentored by Toyota engineers and participate in a paid co-op opportunity with the company earning $17-$21 per hour. Additionally, they will complete two to three co-op rotations that will provide critical hands-on experience.
A scholarship may be renewed annually for four years provided the recipient continues in the Engineering Technology program and remains in good academic standing. If a recipient leaves the program and/or fails to maintain good academic standing, then another student may be selected in their place.
The program encourages scholarship recipients to participate in engineering societies such as the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE); Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE); STEMgiQueers; and/or the Society of Women Engineers (SWE), co-op opportunities, internship(s), tutoring, mentoring experiences and other student resources offered by the program.
Scholarship recipients are expected to be full-time or otherwise on track for graduation in four years. Scholars must maintain a minimum of a 2.5 GPA in the freshman year to keep the scholarship. To maintain the scholarship, recipients must have a 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher by their junior year. If a recipient scholar cannot meet the GPA requirement, as reviewed at the end of each semester, the program shall use available resources to provide mitigation measures such as additional tutoring, counseling and mentorship to help the scholars improve on their performance. UK and BCTC will offer tutoring or remedial courses at no cost to the scholars to catch up and stay on schedule for graduation.
Application criteria:
Deadline to apply will be late Spring of 2023 with anticipated scholarships beginning for the Fall 2023 cohort of students who receive it. 4 year renewal available as long as a 3.0 GPA is kept.
