What is the purpose of the ELLP?

The Engineering Living Learning Program (ELLP) offers a unique opportunity to College of Engineering students who are passionate about pursuing a career in engineering or computer science to live together in a common, goal-focused community. In addition, the program seeks to support students academically and socially while offering opportunities for students to develop valuable technical and soft-skills.

The ELLP is focused on strong academic results aimed towards achieving higher retention rates at both the University of Kentucky and within the Pigman College of Engineering. Our students in the ELLP retain at higher rates than students pursuing engineering or computer science degrees who chose not to be in ELLP.

Is there an additional cost to participating in the ELLP?

No. There is not an additional cost to participate in the ELLP. Your room and board costs are based on the room type you reside in.

How will participating in the program impact my academic and social schedule?

The impact to your schedule will be minimal.  The majority of the programming, activities and events will take place right in Pigman Hall.  Participating in the program will not extend the amount of time to graduation. In fact, having a close community of students and faculty to support you will help you stay on track and graduate on time.

Who is eligible to apply?

The ELLP is open to all new students who are admitted to the UK Pigman College of Engineering, as well as to any returning UK Pigman College of Engineering students.

Do I have to be pursuing a certain academic major?

Yes, you must be pursuing a degree in the UK Pigman College of Engineering.

How do I apply for the ELLP?

Students apply via their UK Housing Application in the MyUK online portal. Because beds are limited, we encourage you to apply early.

Where do ELLP students live?

All ELLP students live together in Pigman Hall residence hall. Pigman Hall boasts two-bedroom, suite-style living with private bedrooms and is conveniently located near the iconic William T. Young Library, the popular fitness and recreation facility known as the Johnson Center and one of the largest on-campus dining facilities, The 90.

Who will I room with?

All ELLP students are paired with other ELLP roommates. This promotes social connections and a solid support structure for students pursuing a Pigman College of Engineering degree. If you and your desired roommate are both in the ELLP, you can request a specific roommate via the UK Housing application.

What if I have a friend at UK who is not a student in the ELLP, can we still room together?

No. To get the full experience of living in the LLP, we encourage students who accept their offer to live in the ELLP to plan to reside with another student admitted to the ELLP.

If I will be participating in the university Honors Program or the SEAM Honors Program can I still apply to reside in the ELLP?

Absolutely! Students accepted in the UK Lewis Honors College or the SEAM Honors Program can also be part of the ELLP.
