Group Objective

The Hallar Aerosol Research Team (HART) seeks to understand connections between between the atmosphere, biosphere, and climate, along with the impact of anthropogenic emissions on these connections.

Welcome to the HART group, located at the University of Utah in the vibrant city of Salt Lake City, Utah. Nestled against the majestic Wasatch Range of the Rocky Mountains in the Salt Lake Valley, our university offers proximity to stunning national parks and world-renowned ski resorts, ensuring abundant opportunities for adventure and exploration.

Our campus benefits from excellent public transportation options, including the UTA Trax and FrontRunner networks, with complimentary access for students. The University of Utah boasts state-of-the-art athletic and recreational facilities, extensive community outreach resources, and a rich array of arts and athletic programs, fostering an inclusive and engaging student life experience.

Within the Atmospheric Sciences department, our diverse team of scientists explores a wide range of topics, from mountain meteorology to cloud microphysics, air quality, fire weather, and modeling. We encourage interdisciplinary collaboration, providing new students with exciting opportunities to engage with various research areas of interest.

Led by Dr. Gannet Hallar, the HART lab offers hands-on experience with aerosol instrumentation in our cutting-edge aerosol monitoring lab, situated on the 8th floor of the William Browning Building. Students have the chance to work with a variety of instruments and gain invaluable fieldwork experience, including the setup and maintenance of aerosol monitoring equipment deployed in mountainous regions like the Atwater site at Alta Ski Resort.
