CircuitPython 10.0.0-alpha.8
This is CircuitPython 10.0.0-alpha.8, an alpha release for 10.0.0. Further features, changes, and bug fixes will be added before the final release of 10.0.0.
Highlights of this release
- Increase the firmware partition size for ESP32-S3 boards with 4MB flash, allowing more features to be included, including BLE. You must update the TinyUF2 bootloader on these boards. See below.
- Merge updates from MicroPython v1.25.0.
- Fix regressions caused by SD automount capability.
- Add
Terminal.cursor_x
and.cursor_y
. - Add
picodvi.Framebuffer.color_depth
.
Incompatibility warnings
- You must update the TinyUF2 bootloader on all ESP32-S3 4MB flash boards to TinyUF2 0.33.0 or later.
- The CircuitPython UF2 builds for these boards now assume a firmware partition of at 2.8MB (double the old size), as explained here. Updating the TinyUF2 bootloader will update the partition size. Failure to update the bootloader will likely cause a UF2 load to fail for 10.0.0-alpha.8 and later: you will remain in the bootloader, with the BOOT drive showing.
- This bootloader update is only needed now for ESP32-S3 with 4MB flash boards; other ESP32-S3 boards are fine. Later this change will be made for 4MB ESP32-S2 boards. This bootloader update is compatible with CircuitPython 9.1.0 and later.
- If you are loading CircuitPython using a
.bin
file instead of a UF2, the partition table is included in the.bin
, and you don't need to do anything.

This is CircuitPython 10.0.0-alpha.7, an alpha release for 10.0.0. Further features, changes, and bug fixes will be added before the final release of 10.0.0.
Highlights of this release
- Update frozen modules.
- Merge updates from MicroPython v1.24.1.
- Espressif:
- Expand the CircuitPython firmware partition on non-USB boards, allowing more space for features in the future.
- Fix
pulseio.PulseIn
length limitation. - Initial implementation of MicroROS.
- Nordic: reinitialize BLE properly after deep sleep.
- Incorporate fixes from CircuitPython 9.2.8 and later:
- Fix
deque
bug. - Fix I2S audio file read causing memory corruption.
- Support "Spectra6" six-color e-ink displays.
- Fix
audiodelays.Delay

CircuitPython 9.2.8
This is CircuitPython 9.2.8, the latest bugfix revision of CircuitPython, and is a new stable release.
WARNING for nRF52 boards only: If your board has an nRF52 UF2 bootloader whose version is before 0.6.1, you will not be able to load CircuitPython 8.2.0 and later, due to increased size of the firmware. See these instructions for updating your bootloader.
Highlights of this release
- Fix
deque
bug. - Fix I2S audio file read causing memory corruption.
- Support "Spectra6" six-color e-ink displays.
- Fix
audiodelays.Delay
whenfreq_shift=True
. - Board fixes.
Incompatibility warnings
- Uses of deprecated
displayio
bindings are now called out with warnings. For instance, displayio.Display
is deprecated in favor ofbusdisplay.BusDisplay
. In CircuitPython 10.0.0 the deprecated bindings will be removed.

CircuitPython 10.0.0-alpha.4
This is CircuitPython 10.0.0-alpha.4, an alpha release for 10.0.0. Further features, changes, and bug fixes will be added before the final release of 10.0.0.
This release is nearly the same as 10.0.0-alpha.3 but has a bug fix that breaks finalisers and results in "in use" errors. (Finalisers will usually release the resources.) It also fixes crashes on ESP32-CX RISC-V boards.
Highlights of this release
- A number of new audio effects.
- Improved garbage collection times
- ESP-IDF update to 5.4.1
- Improved audio playback on RP2
