The Berea College Athletic Training Program is committed to providing comprehensive, high-quality treatment to every Berea College student-athlete. The treatments include, but are not limited to, prevention, evaluation, and treatment of injuries, rehabilitation services, pre-participation exams, nutritional counseling and psychological counseling. On top of overseeing excellent care for over the 200 student-athletes who participate in the 14 intercollegiate teams competing in NCAA Division III, the Berea College Athletic Training program is also renowned for the learning experience of their student-trainers in the program. The program oversees a staff of students whom include Berea College students in the Labor Program interested in an an Allied Health Care Field as well as clinical students from Eastern Kentucky University's Athletic Training curriculum program. As a staff, they provide Sports Medicine Services to the 14 Berea College Intercollegiate Teams whom compete at the NCAA Division III level.
The Athletic Training Program also works closely with outside help, such as Colleen Ambrose, APRN from the White House Clinic as well as Dr. David Dome, the team physician for the Mountaineers. Dr. Dome is a board certified orthopedic surgeon and is affiliated with Lexington Clinic Sports Medicine.
Teams visiting Berea College can expect to receive the following athletic training services:
- Certified Athletic Trainer on Site
- Taping (supplies provided by your team) and stretching available prior to the start of the game
- Injury Ice & Ice Bags
- Emergency Equipment (AED, Crutches, Splint Bag)
- Biohazard Kit
- Basic Biohazard Kit
- A 10-Gallon Cooler of Water will be Provided
- Hydrocollator
- Treatment Table
- E-Stim/Ultrasound
- WILL NOT PROVIDE CUPS/BOTTLES
Emergency response systems will be in place including access to EMS personnel and/or hospitals. The nearest hospital is St. Joesph Berea, located at 305 Estill Street, Berea, KY 40403.
If your team will be traveling without a certified athletic trainer, we request 48 hours notice of any needs your team may require so that we can adequately prepare for your teams' arrival. Also we request you send the necessary supplies (including tape) your team will need.
