In order to participate in the UK DPT program a student must be accepted to the program and attend at either the Lexington or Hazard campus.  The UK program is offered simultaneously on each campus and much of the instruction is done via interactive television.  Clinical education courses are often completed off campus in locations across the state and country.  For these two reasons, the program is considered a distance learning program.

Completing the University of Kentucky Doctor of Physical Therapy program and passing the final comprehensive exam followed by the national licensure exam (NPTE) allows a graduate to practice in any US state.  At graduation, there will be additional state board requirements (such as background check, fees, etc.) to complete for licensure.

The University of Kentucky Doctor of Physical Therapy program is in compliance with CAPTE Accreditation standards and the state authorization requirements in all states in which students may affiliate.

The program has determined that its curriculum meets the state educational requirements for licensure or certification in all states, the District of Colombia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands secondary to its accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education, based on the following:

CAPTE accreditation of a physical therapist or physical therapist assistant program satisfies state educational requirements in all states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Thus, students graduating from CAPTE-accredited physical therapist and physical therapist assistant education programs are eligible to take the National Physical Therapy Examination and apply for licensure in all states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. For more information regarding state qualifications and licensure requirements, refer to the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy website at www.fsbpt.org. Please see this website for more information..

Do not apply to the University of Kentucky Admissions Office or the Graduate School.
