a New Concord, Ohio - The Oberlin College women's soccer team controlled the run of play throughout a 90-minute affair at Muskingum University and got a late tally to earn a 2-1 road win over the Muskies on Wednesday night.
Oberlin pestered the Muskies' rearguard throughout the match, firing off 29 shots with eight of those being on frame. However, the home fish finished with a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.
After neither side found the back of the net in the opening half, it was senior
Sophia Timm-Blow who opened the game's scoring, depositing her second goal in as many games and her fourth since joining the crimson and gold prior to last season.
After Timm-Blow's score in the 66th minute, the Muskies would find the equalizer just over six minutes later when Gracie McNeal finished off a Madison Yenke feed.
Despite the plethora of chances, it appeared that the two foes may be destined for a draw but Oberlin kept pressuring the Muskingum backline and eventually, its efforts would pay off.
With under five minutes to go, senior
Zoe Garver slotted a through-ball to a streaking
Averi Williams who one-touched around a defender before depositing her first-career goal.
Ali Grant didn't face too much trouble between the pipes, turning away three of the four shots Muskingum put on frame. Overall, the Muskies finished with eight shots in the loss.
Oberlin has now won two straight to run its record to 2-1-1 on the year and will return home to host Wilmington College on Saturday at 4 p.m.
