Oberlin, Ohio - The Oberlin College women's soccer team put up a valiant effort against the Otterbein University Cardinals on Wednesday night at Fred Shults Field. Ultimately, it wasn't enough as the visitors left town with a 3-0 victory.
The Cardinals controlled the bulk of the possession throughout the 90-minute affair. Still, Oberlin was able to put together a handful of promising runs on the counter-attack that never came to fruition.
Oberlin trailed just 1-0 at the intermission as Bailey Zanella cashed in her first goal of the season in the 31st minute.
However, the Cardinals came out of the break with a renewed sense of urgency, quickly adding another tally less than three minutes after the restart as Rae Ehrbar scored her first of two second-half goals.
Ehrbar would leave no doubt in the eventual outcome with another score in the 62nd minute.
Oberlin fired off 13 of its 18 shots in the second half and put some pressure on the Cardinals' rearguard.
Lauren Roche put all three of her attempts on frame, while
Heather Benway led OC with six shots overall.
Ali Grant made three saves in the first half before giving way to
Roam Redington in the second half who added one save.
