Oberlin, Ohio – Hosting their second of five straight home games, the Oberlin College field hockey team dropped an NCAC matchup against DePauw, 5-0 on Sunday afternoon.
Despite the scoreboard, Oberlin's defense, led by goalkeeper
Janny McCormick, put up a valiant effort, facing an onslaught of 20 shots and making 15 critical saves.
The Crimson and Gold's determination was evident throughout the game, holding DePauw scoreless in the second and third quarters. After a tough start, with DePauw scoring twice in the first period, Oberlin regrouped, tightening their defense and quelling the Tigers through 12 shots.
Izzy Clauss-Ehlers managed Oberlin's only shot in the match, streaking downfield ahead of her defense. It was only when she wound up to take her shot that the Tigers closed in and forced the ball wide of cage.
The fourth quarter saw DePauw add three more goals as the Crimson and Gold fell to the Tigers 5-0.
The squad returns to action on Thursday, October 3, when they host Wooster for a 6 p.m. matchup.
