Lisa Samoylov ’26 Reflects on 2025 Joint Math Meeting

This past weekend I presented a poster at JMM on the research on quantum error-correcting codes that I did as part of the Theoretical and Applied Driven REU at Texas A&M University.

JMM was a great opportunity to meet a lot of mathematicians and learn about various areas in math. I'm grateful to my friends from the REU and my professors and friends who've shaped my math journey.

Emilio Sebastian Daza Vigo ’27 Reflects on 2025 Joint Math Meeting

I attended the JMM to present my research project from the summer EE Just Program, which resulted in the creation of two AI models: one that detects heart disease and another that classifies brain tumours. The experience was incredibly exciting. It was inspiring to see so many people passionate about mathematics and its role in AI, both in development and safety. The conference sessions covered a wide range of topics, from highly technical mathematical talks to conversations about the future of mathematics as a profession amidst emerging technologies. I was surprised about the fact that there was a lecture by the Chief AI Scientist of Meta, who explained the limitations of current algorithms. This event was valuable not only for the knowledge shared but also for the sense of community and appreciation within the mathematical field. Additionally, the National Association of Mathematicians hosted a banquet focused on promoting inclusiveness and prosperity among minority groups in mathematics. (See Emilio's talk slides and research paper.)
