Morehead, Ky.-- A strong Lindenwood attack proved too much for the Morehead State volleyball team as they fell to Lindenwood in straight sets in the finals of the Ohio Valley Conference tournament.
The set scores were 25-16, 25-18, 25-15. Morehead State (18-14/12-6 OVC) will represent the Ohio Valley Conference in the NCAA tournament. Lindenwood, in only their second year in Division I, is still in the NCAA's transitional period for schools rising from a lower division.
Junior All-OVC First Team selection M.E. Hargan led the Eagles with her 20th double-double of her career with a match-high10 kills and 10 digs. Senior Peighton Isley led the match with 18 digs. Sophomore Sydney Senett finished with 10 assists and 11 digs for the 11th double-double of her career.
Hargan and grad student Irene Wogenstahl, who finished with a career-high 21 kills in the semi-finals last night were both named to the All-Tournament Team.
Lindenwood (23-10/14-4 OVC) came out swinging in the opening set. The Lions slammed 11 kills, hitting a .370 attack percentage and blasted seven service aces to cruise 25-16 in the opening frame. Junior M.E. Hargan led the attack for the Eagles with five kills. MSU's attack hit at a .229 efficiency.
Lindenwood picked up right where they left off in the second set, using a five-point run to jump out to a quick 10-2 lead, again highlighted by two service aces in the early portion of the set. The teams traded runs, but Morehead State could not get any closer to four points the rest of the set.
Morehead State opened the third set with a 5-2 lead. Lindenwood responded with an eight-point run to make it 10-5 and never looked back on the way to sealing the victory.
The Lions were led by Addy McAleer, Rebecca Janke and OVC Freshman of the Year Autumn Bax with eight kills apiece.
