The 2024 Athletic Hall of Fame induction is part of the Blue and Gold alumni weekend at Morehead State on Feb. 7-8, 2025. The induction will take place in the Prefontaine Pub in the Adron Doran University Center at 6:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, Feb. 8 following the doubleheader basketball event versus Little Rock (1 and 3:30 p.m. ET) at Johnson Arena. Blue and Gold weekend also includes receptions on Friday night for the Hall of Fame inductees and friends, plus an overall alumni reception prior to the basketball games Saturday.
Below are the bios of the five Hall of Fame inductees for the class of 2024.

 
Marisa Kamelgarn (Women's Golf: 2010-2013)

KamelgarnHOFMarisa Kamelgarn came to Morehead State from Mahopac, N.Y., and made an immediate impact on Morehead State's Women's golf program both on and off the course. She was a named four times as a National Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar and was also named to the Ohio Valley Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll all four seasons she competed as an Eagle.

She was honored as a member of the OVC women's golf 75th anniversary team.

On the course as a freshman (2009-10), she made an immediate impact, leading the team in low round, scoring and top-20 finishes. Her 75.8 stroke average led the OVC, and she was named OVC Freshman of the Year, and named to the All-OVC First Team, picking up three Golfer of the Week awards.

Kamelgarn helped MSU to its first-ever OVC Tournament title and NCAA Tournament appearance as a sophomore in 2010-11, leading the team in scoring average and posting seven top-10 finishes.

In her junior campaign (2011-12), she again led the OVC in scoring average and was named "Miss Eagle" as Morehead State's top female student-athlete and was picked as the OVC Golfer of the Year. She tied for first at the OVC Championship and was named to the OVC All-Tournament Team. She was named OVC Golfer of the Week five times.

In her collegiate career, she was credited with six tournament victories. She is just the fifth player in Ohio Valley Conference history to earn All-OVC First Team honors four times.  Kamelgarn earned OVC Golfer of the Week awards a record 11 times.

Kamelgarn earned her bachelor's degree from Morehead State in biology and later earned her Doctorate Degree from University of Kentucky in toxicology and cancer biology. She currently serves as a senior scientist at QurAlis.  She currently resides in Medford, Mass., with her husband, Eugene Hinderer.


Zach Lewis (Football: 2009-2012)

LewisHOFZach Lewis was one of the most prolific passers in Morehead State football history. Lewis came to Morehead from Clay County High School in Manchester, Ky., where he set then-state records with 13,642 career passing yards and 1,508 career attempts. His 916 completions mark ranked second in Kentucky high school history. He threw for 105 touchdowns in his high school career.

2011 was a banner year for Lewis. He set the school record for most passing yards in a season with 3,585, averaging 325.9 per game. His 324 completions that season is also a school record. He threw for 28 touchdowns which ranks second in program history.

That season he also set school records for completions and attempts in a game, going 44 for 68 against Campbell.

As a senior, he completed 266 of his 402 passes for 2,955 yards (which ranks sixth in program history) and 25 touchdowns. His sophomore season, in 2010, he passed for 2,898 yards, which ranks seventh in the Morehead State record book.

One of only two quarterbacks in school history to pass for more than 10,000 yards, Lewis finished his career with 10,251 passing yards, which ranks second in school history. His career line of 936 completions in 1499 attempts for 256.3 per game with 72 touchdown passes all rank second in program history.

Lewis earned his bachelor's degree from Morehead State in education. After coaching football for several years, Lewis is now an area manager for Performance Food Group in Johnson City, Tenn. He is married to his wife Alyson.


Jade (Flory) Rhoads (Soccer: 2013-2014)

Flory-RhoadsHOF2Jade (Flory) Rhoads played two seasons at Morehead State, transferring after two seasons at Youngstown State where she piled up 11 goals and seven assists in the first two seasons in college. She was honored on the Ohio Valley Conference 75th anniversary soccer team.

In her first season at MSU in 2013 she made an immediate splash. She finished the season with five game-winning goals, which ties the single-season record at Morehead State and places her for a tie for third place all-time. Rhoads was named Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Year and First Team All-OVC.

She finished with 14 goals (with three multiple-goal matches) tying her for second in school history and collected OVC Offensive Player of the Week honors four times. She recorded her first collegiate hat trick in MSU's 4-0 win over Eastern Kentucky.

In her senior campaign in 2014 she picked up where she left off. Rhoads led the team and ranked second in the OVC with 13 goals with three multiple-goal matches. She was named First-Team All-OVC and was a three-time OVC Offensive Player of the Week.

She led the team with 50 shots and produced a .560 shot-on-goal average. She also recorded her second career hat trick in Morehead State's win over Illinois-Chicago among her three multiple-goal efforts of the season.

She was named a CoSIDA Second-Team Academic All-American and First-Team Academic All-District. In her two seasons at Morehead State, she placed her name in the program's records books finishing third with 68 points, tied for third with 27 goals, tied for third with 14 assists and second in program history with nine match-winning goals.

After her time at Morehead State, she went on to play three professional seasons overseas - one season in Iceland and two in Sweden. She was named the Offensive Player of the Year in her final season with 31 goals in 19 matches.

Rhoads earned her bachelor's degree from Morehead State in business. She currently serves as an Account Manager at Aerotek. She resides in Chambersburg, Pa., with her husband Tyler, her daughter Vienna, her parents Dawn and Greg, and Uncle Dan.


Walt Rybka (Rifle Head Coach: 1996-2014)

RykbaHOFWalt Rybka headed the Morehead State Rifle program from the 1995-96 season through the 2013-14 season. He guided Elizabeth Lyon in 2009 and Ethan Cole in 2014, to the NCAA Championships.

Rybka was named OVC Coach of the Year twice (1997-98 and 1999-2000) and guided Morehead State to a national ranking during several seasons as the Eagles' head coach.

During his tenure, numerous athletes won conference and national rifle awards, and his 1998-99 squad earned the best GPA among all collegiate teams.

Rybka is not only a superior coach, but he is also a fine competitor. First competing in Pistol at 13, he continued competing and in 1997 was crowned the Kentucky State Air Pistol Champion.

He started shooting Smallbore rifle at age 13 with the Plymouth Police Youth Club Shooting program and became a competitive Pistol shooter at age 21, competing in Air Pistol and Precision Pistol. Rybka achieved an expert ranking in both events and earned a Distinguished Pistol Rating in 1991.

Rybka was a member of the UltraDot Pistol Team and the OHINKY Pistol Team. He is a life member of both the National Rifle Association and the Kentucky State Rifle and Pistol Association. He is also currently an active member of the Kentucky Longrifles Club of Morehead.

Rybka continues to be a vital part of the Eagles' current success, lending support by serving as range director for home matches and helping upgrade the facilities in Button Range.


Benjamin Schmid (Men's Tennis: 2000-2003)

SchmidHOFBenjamin Schmid was a standout for the Morehead State Men's Tennis Team from 2000-2003. Schmid racked up nearly 75 career singles victories and more than 50 career doubles victories at MSU.

Prior to joining the Eagle program, he was ranked in the top 10 in tennis in Germany and won many titles there every year in his teens.

A three-time First Team All-OVC selection, Schmid posted a winning percentage of better than 90% in his career against Ohio Valley Conference opponents. Among his many victories at MSU, Schmid won a singles tournament in Chattanooga, Tenn., in 2003.

In 2003 Schmid was named a Second-Team Academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America organization. He was named First-Team Academic All-District twice.

After his MSU career, Schmid played in the Tennis Bundesliga in Germany, which is a German league for professional tennis players. Many players from around the world participate in the league, several of whom are ranked in the top 200 in the world (ATP).

In his career, Schmid defeated several top 500 world-ranked players and also played ex-top 10 ATP players, such as Andrej Cherkasow, in tournaments.

Schmid earned his bachelor's degree from Morehead State in business administration - management (Summa Cum Laude) with a GPA of 3.98. He later earned his Master's Degree from European Business School (ESB) in international sales & marketing.

After working for Procter & Gamble for many years as Global Brand Manager in Switzerland and Germany, he currently serves as a CEO at Charicomm, a marketing agency specialized for non-profit organizations. He resides in Geneva, Switzerland, with his wife Narmada and daughter Vedanta.
