Morehead State University Alumni, Class of 1957 and 1961 MSU Men’s Golf Coach from 1977 - 2014
Coach Rex Chaney impacted the lives of countless MSU Eagles throughout his lifetime. MSU Athletics, with the support of MSU Alumni and Friends and the MSU Foundation, is committed to keeping Coach Chaney’s legacy alive for generations to come.
The Chaney Memorial Project includes:
Creation of the Rex Chaney Endowment Fund
This endowment fund will be invested and managed by the MSU Foundation as a permanent recognition remembering Coach Chaney. Coach Chaney’s passion was to bring people together.
Additionally, his philosophy was to be a student first and athlete second. To ensure that both of these core values are honored every year, the proceeds from this endowment fund will be utilized to enhance the student athlete experience as coordinated annually by the Director of Athletics and the Chaney Family.
Installation of a Putting Simulation Lab
A unique piece of equipment, the Sam Puttlab from Science and Motion Sports, will be installed. This state-of-the-art equipment will be a game changer for current and future student athletes on the Men’s and Women’s Golf Teams.
Naming of the Annual Nine and Dine Golf Team Fundraising Event
Coach Chaney was instrumental in garnering support from alumni and community members. During his career, he was instrumental in fundraising endeavors for MSU Athletics, specifically the golf programs. To honor his contributions of time, talent and treasure, the annual golf fundraising event will be named in his memory:
The Dr. Rex Chaney Memorial Nine and Dine Event
This combination of memorial recognition projects allows the current and future golf teams to be impacted by Coach Chaney. The Endowment will create an indefinite way to honor him, the putting lab will make an immediate contribution to the programs, and the dedication of the annual fundraising event will allow the MSU golf community to remember Coach Chaney
annually and continue to raise funding for the programs he loved and devoted his life’s work to enhance.
