Alex Lozado

Coming over fellow Ohio Valley Conference school UT Martin, Alex Lozado is in his first year on the Morehead State coaching staff.

He started as volunteer assistant at UTM and was promoted to full-time assistant coach in 2024.

Lozado's first season at UT Martin, in 2023, saw the Skyhawks post a program-most 14 OVC wins, tying for the second-most in the league and entering the OVC Tournament as the No. 3 seed.

Lozado helped the program's highest Major League Baseball Draft pick in Caleb Hobson (13th round to the Colorado Rockies) and helped guide the school's first-ever Freshman All-American pitcher and OVC Freshman of the Year in Zach Wager. A program-record five players garnered All-OVC recognition.

Lozado's collegiate playing career finished at the South Florida under head coach Billy Mohl. A right-handed pitcher, he was a member of the USF squad which advanced to the NCAA Super Regionals after claiming an American Athletic Conference Tournament championship. Lozado posted a 3.18 ERA and a 1.06 WHIP in 2021.

Lozado began his collegiate career as a two-way player at Gulf Coast State College (Fla.) where current interim head coach Chrios Rose was coaching. Lozado started 63 of his 66 games played as an infielder, hitting .268 with 28 runs scored, nine doubles, a pair of home runs and 28 RBI. On the mound, he made 18 appearances, going 5-2 with four saves and a 3.77 ERA over 62 innings pitched. He helped the Commodores to 44 victories during his two-year stint.

Lozado's best season at Gulf Coast State came during the shortened 2020 campaign. At the plate, he led the squad with a .358 batting average while producing an .886 OPS. He also went 4-2 with a 2.61 ERA over eight starts, tallying a 0.99 WHIP with 42 strikeouts against just five walks in a team-best 41.1 innings. He was part of a combined no-hitter in the Jan. 26 season opener against Faulkner, tossing the first four innings in the sixth no-hitter in Commodore history. As a freshman in 2019, Lozado started 40 games as a position player while going 1-0 with a team-high four saves in 10 appearances.

Lozado attended Floyd Central High School just outside of Louisville, Ky., in Indiana. He earned All-Conference honors while garnering Pitcher of the Year accolades over his career, which included a 1.80 ERA as a senior and a 1.30 ERA during his junior campaign.

Lozado's father Willie played professionally for 10 seasons, including 43 games for the Milwaukee Brewers in 1984.

He graduated from South Florida in 2022 with a bachelor's degree in communications.
