Environment and People
From Indigenous land management to urbanization, humans have shaped the landscapes of the South for millennia. Humans influence — and are influenced by — the environment around them. Understanding these relationships can improve the way people steward plant and animal communities.
The Southern Research Station explores the socioeconomic dimensions of land ownership, climate change, urbanization, ecosystem services, and more. Our research provides knowledge, strategies, and tools for restoring, managing, and sustaining southern forests and fosters insight about ecosystem restoration globally.
