The Forestry Division is committed to minimizing the impacts of climate change on our most sensitive resources, including endangered plants and wildlife. The Forestry Division recommends using the following tools to determine when and how ground-disturbing projects, planned or implemented, may negatively impact these resources. Projects include timber sales, tree thinning of any type, prescribed burns, and herbicide applications.

The Environmental Review Tool (ERT), developed by the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish, and The Information for Planning and Consultation (IPAC) tool, created by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, provide a quick way to identify species that could be affected.
