About this ebook
I believe that rain, snow, sun, and wind are miracles made from the dust of the earth. One day we are healthy, the next day we are not. In 2008 I was showing neurological signs of Parkinsons. I went to see my doctor, and she ordered an MRI. A few days after my MRI, I received a phone call from my doctor telling me that the MRI showed positive signs of Parkinsons. I went to follow up with my family doctor to create a plan for my future.
The symptoms I experienced in the early stages were:
Difficulty writing
Slow movement
Softer voice
Feet were heavy and difficult to move
Hand tremors
Poor balance when walking
Drooling
Always feeling cold
Challenges with hand dexterity, making it difficult to peel fruit, put a letter in an envelope, hold a cup, dress, shave, and hold cutlery
Before I knew what was wrong with me, I was very frustrated. Once I was given the diagnosis and began seeing doctors, I was still frustrated. However, I didnt feel as if I were in the dark anymore.

FOREWORD
Parkinson’s disease is on the rise, with more people being diagnosed daily. As of October 11, 2013, there were approximately 60,000 people with this disease, most of them, including myself, don’t know how to handle it. I am stepping up to the plate to learn as much as possible about this disease, and to share that information with others, from the perspective of one who has the disease.
Canadians seem to have few answers, yet medications are being prescribed without full knowledge of the long term effects for individuals. These drugs affect individuals differently, and create a variety of challenges with which one has to cope. I believe that a good place to start to take an active role in managing the disease oneself is to make a change in one’s own diet, exercise regimen, and overall lifestyle.
Before being diagnosed, life was wonderful in so many ways…being independent, working, spending time with family, enjoying participation in activities with friends, just being. The diagnosis had a tremendous impact. It is up to each individual to be informed and knowledgeable by reading, asking questions, and being involved in the
