Six months after the death of his friend and partner Sherlock Holmes at the hands of Moriarty, Dr. John Watson resumes his medical career as the head of a clinic dedicated to treating rare disorders. Watson's old life isn't done with him, though -- Moriarty and Watson are set to write their own chapter of a story that has fascinated audiences for more than a century. "Watson" is a medical show with a strong investigative spine, featuring a modern version of one of history's greatest detectives as he turns his attention from solving crimes to solving medical mysteries.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Transplanting Sherlock Holmes lore into a medical procedural, Watson conceit proves an awkward fit but gets a boost from the ever-watchable Morris Chestnut.

Nina Metz Chicago Tribune Chestnut has considerable screen charisma, but he can’t overcome the weak scripts. Rated: 1.5/4 Feb 12, 2025 Full Review Kelly Lawler USA Today A patient-of-the-week drama gets crashed together with this half-hearted Sherlock mythology and the wheels fall right off. Rated: 1.5/4 Jan 29, 2025 Full Review Robert Lloyd Los Angeles Times What we get is, more or less, a warmer, fuzzier version of “House.” Jan 29, 2025 Full Review Joel Keller Decider Watson jams Holmesian mythology, quirky doctors, and complex medical mysteries into stories that can’t really handle all three at once, and it shows in how none of it feels well thought-out. Jan 29, 2025 Full Review Rob Owen Pittsburgh Tribune-Review The show’s serialized story about a figure from Holmes’ past who’s out to get him intrigues, but that’s secondary to the less interesting “doc-tectives” resolving medical cases. Jan 27, 2025 Full Review Randy Dankievitch Processed Media Watson‘s pilot holds a few twinkles of promise in its opening and closing acts, suggestions that while it may struggle when leading with its trite medical and interpersonal dramas, there’s potential for a more adventurous, thoughtful show. Andrew H It's House + Sherlock, and produced like a "blue sky" USA show. Not much new or interesting here, but as Holmes reimaginings go, it's not the worst. And it's somehow much more authentic to its Pittsburgh setting than HBO's "The Pitt." Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/27/25 Full Review Jan W I would expect a much better show with Morris Chestnut in it. Very dumb plots and I lost interest after the second episode. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/26/25 Full Review Rebecca H Episode 1: Even if I could overlook the distance between this show and the actual SH series, this is not a good show. It's not even realistic. He fell asleep on his couch in an unnatural, unbelievable position. An emergency surgery would not wait for a nurse to hit play on a playlist. Even if the two girls had the same infectious disease, they would *likely* not be roomed together. The makeup wasn't realistic, nor were the outfits. Watson was trying to be House but its a trope that's been overdone. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/25/25 Full Review Hunt G This show wants to be House so bad, but fails astoundingly to do so. Ritchie Coster as Shinwell is about the only positive thing in the show, the rest are all unlikeable and difficult to watch. Love Morris Chestnut but this show is just terrible. A perfect example of writers unable to write smart people, so they just make everyone around them stupid. It's a shame, if you want to see how to do this well, watch House or Elementary, smart people written as smart, surrounded by smart people, these shows do it well, this one, just doesn't. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/24/25 Full Review Scott T This just feels like a Rosewood rehash trying to to capitalize on the Sherlock Holmes name. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/21/25 Full Review Lane M Not good, to many other shows to watch Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/21/25 Full Review Read all reviews
