5TH GRADE TIGER STADIUM The FINAL payment of $25.00 per person was due on April 24th. If you have not made this
payment, please send it in as soon as possible. Please make checks payable to Michigan Center Schools.

HOOPS FOR HEART took place this week during your students gym classes. Forms were sent home last week. All forms
and donations need to be returned by Wednesday, April 29th. All monies raised will be donated to the American Heart Association.

3. TEACHER REQUESTS for the 2015-2016 school year are now being taken in the Keicher office. We will continue to take
requests during the month of April. We have a super teaching staff at Keicher Elementary and are excited at the variety of teaching
styles we can offer our students. Requests must be written and have an educational reason to be considered for the placement. As
much as we are able, we will honor requests made, but there are no guarantees. The deadline is April 30, 2015.

Making School a Priority
With spring right around the corner, it can be hard to keep children focused on learning. What can you do to make school a top priority
for your kids? Keep these simple ideas in mind theyre useful at any time of the year.
Make attendance job #1. Let your youngsters know that unless theyre sick, they must go to school. Try to schedule routine dentist and
doctor appointments after school hours. If possible, take family vacations during school breaks. Tip: Give awards for perfect attendance
each month. Try a Job Well Done certificate or a coupon good for a night of bowling or a movie.
Show you care. Want your children to know that youre interested in their learning? Talk about their school activities and projects.
Attend as many school events as you can. If homework and after-school activities conflict, speak up: I know you have baseball practice
this evening, but homework comes first. After you finish, Ill take you to practice.
Keep it upbeat. Try to set a positive example for your children, even when your own day has been difficult. Instead of saying, I had a
hard day at work. Ill never get my project done, try, Work was hard today, but I made some progress on my project. If you show a
positive attitude about your work, your youngsters may feel better about their own.

Lets go for a reading walk

Its springtimethe perfect
time to go for a walk. Why not
make it a reading walk? Here
are fun ways your child can
read words in her environment
while you enjoy the
outdoors together.
Match the card
Before heading out, help

your youngster write words
on index cards to match ones
she might see. For a walk
downtown, she could write
main and sale or draw street
signs and store logos. If youre
going to the park, her cards may include
words like trail and playground. As you
walk, have her search for each word,
read it aloud, and hand the card to you.
Can she match all of her cards?
Fit a category
Ask your child to think of a category
and look around for words that fit. She
might want to find words about colors,
math, or sports. If she picks math words,
for instance, she may read one way, town
square, and half price. On your next walk,
she can choose a different category. She
could keep track of how many words she
reads for each one and declare her most
popular category!
Spot little words

Encourage your youngster to look for
little words within big onesa strategy
that can help her read longer words.
Look for a long word like department or

transportation. Together, see how many
small words you can find in it, such as
part, art, men, and depart in department.
