OXYGEN SYSTEM
The oxygen system comprises the crew and courier
oxygen system and protective breathing equipment,
including associated controls, monitors and
indicators. The systems are independent of each
other.
Crew and Courier Oxygen System
The system provides adequate oxygen to sustain the
crew in the event of cabin decompression or emission
of smoke and noxious gas. Each crew/courier station
is equipped with a quick-donning mask which has a
mask-mounted regulator. Oxygen is supplied to the
masks from stationary high pressure oxygen cylinders
via pressure regulator/transmitter units, distribution
blocks and distribution lines.
Protective Breathing Equipment
Protective breathing equipment is installed for flight
crew members. The equipment is stored in various
locations in the flight compartment and in the main
deck cargo compartment. It is a self-contained unit
with an oxygen supply. The equipment is used by
crew members in the event of decompression or
smoke or noxious gas emissions.

Oxygen Storage
The flight crew oxygen is supplied from four high
pressure oxygen cylinders, located forward of the
avionics compartment on the right.
Oxygen Distribution
Oxygen is supplied to the flight compartment crew
stations through a supply circuit which includes two
overpressure manifolds, four pressure regulators, two
supply valves, two distribution manifolds, low
pressure supply lines and quick-donning masks.

GENERAL
General
The indicating system provides control and monitoring
of the oxygen source and supply pressures.
The system comprises:
Cylinder Pressure Gage (Direct Reading) It is possible
to check the cylinder pressure by removing the case
assembly of the storage compartment, by reading of
the pressure gage on the cylinder valve assembly.
This reading is intended for the maintenance
personnel to check the cylinder pressure.
LP Indicators
The LP indicators are remotely controlled by the LP
transmitters mounted on the low pressure manifold
in the storage compartment as follows :
Crew LP indicator 4HT/LP transmitter 31HT
Courier LP indicator 49HT/LP transmitter 40HT
They indicate the pressure in the crew and courier
distribution systems. They include colored reading
bands, identified clockwise by the following colors,
Red: 0 to 38 psig, Amber: 38 to 70 psig, Green: 70
to 94 psig, Amber: 94 to 101 psig, Red: over 101
psig
HP Indicator
Each HP indicator is remotely controlled by the
transmitter incorporated in the high pressure stage of
the regulator as follows:
Cylinder 1- HP Indicator 6HT/Transmitter 8HT
Cylinder 2- HP Indicator 48HT/Transmitter 34HT
Cylinder 3 -HP Indicator 38HT/Transmitter 41HT
Cylinder 4- HP Indicator 43HT/Transmitter 42HT
It indicates, when the cylinder manual isolation valve is
open, the pressure of the cylinder and the high
pressure stage of the regulator. It is graduated in psi
and divided into two colored reading bands: Red: 0-85
psig Green: 85-2025 psig

CAUTION
NOTE
The procedure is identical for the four oxygen cylinders.
CAUTION
WHEN DISASSEMBLED TEMPORARILY, ANY PIPE
OR UNIT MUST HAVE THE ENDS PROTECTED BY A
DRY AND CLEAN METAL OR PLASTIC PLUG, AND
BE PLACED IN A SEALED VINYL BAG.
On oxygen cylinder
(1) Remove pressure regulator by loosening nut .
(2) Remove discharge indicator line. Discard
sealing ring.
(3) Loosen nuts and remove washers on
cylinder securing clamps.
(4) Remove cylinder.
Preparation of Replacement Component )
Make certain that date limit has not been exceeded
Visually check pressure gage and union threads.

WARNING: Personnel in charge of
carrying out the actions must be
aware of the risks involved in
handling oxygen, which enhances
combustion in the presence of
fuel and becomes explosive in the
presence of hydrocarbons (fuels,
lubricants).

STOWAGE BOX
The stowage box houses the mask with deflated
harness and smoke goggles. It comprises:
A connector enabling connection of the flexible hose for
oxygen supply to the mask.
A two flap door maintaining the mask in its housing. The
left flap is provided with a sliding control for operating
an ON/OFF supply valve which releases oxygen to the
mask regulator when the LH flap is opened. During
restowing of the mask, it is necessary to pull on the
sliding control to reset the ON/OFF valve in the OFF
position. A white flag, marked OXYGEN, on the sliding
control protrudes, thus preventing restowing of the
mask with the valve in ON position. A rigid stainless
steel tube connected to the pneumatic ON/OFF supply
valve assembly. The supply valve assembly
incorporates connector(a). A blinker flowmeter which
flashes when oxygen is flowing. A precoiled flexible
hose for oxygen supply connected to the valve, the free
end of which includes a quick-disconnect connection
with self-sealing coupling for connection to the relevant
supply pipe of the mask regulator.
A microphone lead tied to the oxygen flexible hose by
ties and connected at one of its ends to a connector
mounted on the box and enabling connection to the
aircraft network; the other end is provided with ; quickdisconnect positive locking connector for connection to
the relevant mask microphone supply cable.

SMOKE GOGGLES
The smoke goggles are enclosed in a cloth soft bag.
They consist of a wide angle lens equipped with an
adjustable extra wide fixing headband. The smoke
goggles lens is of high grade optics with an antiabrasion coating on the outside surface and an antifogging coating on the inside surface. The wear of
prescription glasses is possible.

EMERGENCY OXYGEN
Lavatory Emergency Oxygen
The chemical oxygen generator is a sodium-chlorate
core installed in a stainless-steel housing. A thermal
insulating material is used between the core and the
housing. The chemical generator actuator is a springloaded striker and a percussion cap installed at one
end of the housing. A pull-pin holds the striker away
from the cap. A lanyard connects the pull-pin to the
oxygen mask. A filter assembly is installed in the outlet
end of the housing to prevent contamination of the
oxygen supply. A flexible hose connects the oxygen
mask to the outlet manifold. The oxygen mask gets its
oxygen supply from the outlet. The outlet is installed
on the housing. A relief valve is installed at the outlet
end of the housing. This will prevent a high pressure
build-up if a failure of the outlet valve occurs. A
temperature sensitive indicator tape is installed on the
housing. The process of generating oxygen creates a
fairly high temperature, this causes the indicator tape
to change color from yellow to black. A black indicator
tape signals that this chemical oxygen generator has
been used. The oxygen mask is a face cone with a
reservoir bag attached. The inhale, exhale and diluter
valves are installed the face cone. A flow indicator is
installed in the flexible hose connected to the oxygen
mask. The flow indicator will show a green stripe when
there is an oxygen flow.
