with a partner and two minor individual tasks) and two

Important: Time
management
You will need to work with your partner to

choose a person or place and then begin your
research.
You will also need to discuss with your partner

how you will organise your research,
prepare your report, prepare your
PowerPoint slideshow and practice your
oral presentation.

in the library and in class to prepare and
practice, but you may need to meet with
your partner outside of class to finish
practicing your presentation.

Task 2: Oral presentation

Duration
Your presentation should be between 8-10 minutes long.

Both students must take part in the presentation.
Structure
The presentation must follow the structure of an oral

presentation which is outlined below.
Your presentation must be supported with a PowerPoint

PowerPoint slideshow.

You must take part in providing written feedback to your

peers as you listen to each presentation.

1. Delivery
You
must not read your research notes. Use

4. Overview
Once you have introduced yourself you

need to state the subject/topic of the talk
Then, provide an overview or outline of

your presentation where you will divide your
topic into sub-topics.

Use logical organisation with clear signposting,

that is, linking words to make it clear when you
are beginning a new point e.g. next, after that,

and include interesting information. You may
include statistics, diagrams, quotations and
examples

Finish your talk clearly, dont just fizzle out.

Speak loudly enough for everyone

in the room to hear you. Aim your
voice at the people in the last row.

rush! Speaking fast makes it harder
for other people to understand you.

Pause at the end of each point.
Vary your voice. Monotones are boring!
8. Body language
Stand straight and comfortably. Dont

slouch or shuffle about.
Look around and make eye-contact with

everyone. Dont just address your teacher.
Use your hands, your facial expressions and

your body to communicate. Its OK to move
around a bit. Engage and entertain!

You must prepare a PowerPoint

presentation relevant to your topic.

Keep it simple stupid!
Use lots of slides with only a few words on

each slide.
Use lots of images. People are

visual and love lots of pictures.

Animate bullet points so they appear one at

a time.
Your slides should be easy to focus on.

Contrast font colour with backing colour.
Dont make your slides too glitzy.
Check your grammar and spelling.
DONT turn around and read from your

slides!
