TECHNOLOGIES IN
THE CONSTRUCTION
AND RESEARCH,
PLANNING AND
EVALUATION
STAGES?
RESEARCH
For my research, I used two key websites, google, and youtube
as they feature both reviews and inspirational clips from existing
movies of the Romantic Comedy genre. If I didn’t have these
websites available to me, I would have relied on my own
personal dvd collection for inspiration and asked friends who
were knowledgeable about the genre.
PHOTOSHOP
Photoshop is an editing software which was required
in the creation of the poster. It was needed so that
we could lasso the image of Adam and Charlie, then
apply it to the lined paper background as well as
pasting the title font and other text. This was an
effective programme in doing this though its still a
timely process to complete.
INDESIGN
The software I used for the Double Page Spread was InDesign. This
is similar to photoshop in that it has similar editing devices though
much easier to use. It is primarily used for the purpose of making
double page spreads, pamphlets, leaflets, letters and posters. If
this wasn’t available , I would use photoshop to create it though I'd
find this more difficult as I’m more confident using InDesign as I’ve
used this software to make a double page spread prior to this.
MICROSOFT OFFICE
For my evaluation and research processes, I used both Office Word
and Office Powerpoint. These are both programmes that I am
confident with having used them for a longer amount of time.
These were used to provide informative presentations that are
laid out clearly. I used Word to type out my article before
transferring it onto my Double Page Spread, and to type out the
script for the film. PowerPoint's such as this provide an easy way
to present the evaluation and research made.
SCRIBD
I used the Scribd website to upload my powerpoints
so that I could then upload them onto Wordpress.
This website allows the user to upload various types
of documents so that they can then be uploaded onto
other sites, shared and commented on. This is easy to
use on a PC though slightly more difficult on a MAC.
WORDPRESS
Wordpress is the blogging website used to upload my
media coursework. This aided me in chronologically
uploading each stage involved in my production as it
happened. This wasn’t particularly difficult to use as
I had used a similar blogging website called
blogger/blogspot the previous year.
IMOVIE
Imovie is a software for editing films. It provides
credits, captions, titles, clipping, trimming. The
layout is clear so that piecing together film clips is
easier to perform. The editing itself was difficult as
uploading the clips resulted in jumpy frames and
poor sound. It took a while to understand how it
worked though when it was used more often, it
slowly became easier.
YOUTUBE
Youtube is a video sharing website that anyone can access and use, users
can rate, comment, favourite, and upload videos of any subject or genre.
The film had to be uploaded onto Youtube so that it could then be
transferred onto the blog.
This was done by creating an account and then uploading the film from
imovie onto it.
As I had previous experience with Youtube, the process was fairly easy to
do.
CAMERA
This was a piece of physical
technology that was vital in the
production of the short film.
The camera I used was an SD
Panasonic video camera.
It took me a while to figure out
how it worked initially though
soon after I was able to film in
different ways such as
handheld and on the tripod,
angles, zoom, and connection
to the MAC to upload the
footage.
MAC
The majority of the work for my portfolio was
completed on a MAC computer. Although I am far
more competent on it than I was since AS, I still find
it more difficult to use than a PC.
The MAC does, however, have the programmes
needed to complete editing such as photoshop,
indesign, imovie and garageband (which I had
experimented with but not used for my production).
The MAC’s ability of having high quality software was
a huge aid in editing and experimenting different
media texts.
DIGITAL CAMERA
I had to use my photography
skills when taking stills for the
promotional pictures of my
actors and production.
I used both a school camera for
the poster image and my own
School
digital camera for the images
Camera
taken during production for my My Camera
double page spread.
Both camera’s weren’t hard to
use or upload with but were
very useful in providing an
insight into test shots and
composition.
